Re: cocktail hour
We are having a steel drummer for the cocktail hour since it's going to be outside on the water and it will give the CH a nice feel to it. Our DJ charges $650 for the steel drummer.
EDIT: I should add that that it's for 1 steel drummer and he plays along to a backing track.

Re: cocktail hour
We are doing a steel drum band - some people have hired guitar players to do acustic music.. maybe a piano or a sax player..
and if you want to be fancy a harpist...
most DJ companies have resources for this type of stuff... we got the steel drummers from our DJ company so I would even ask your band if they have anything they could offer/reccomend.
Gigmasters.com is a great site to look up local musicians for this sorta thing and it has prices listed.

Re: cocktail hour
I really want a pianist for cocktail hour. Does your RH have a piano? I think that would be a nice touch!

Re: cocktail hour
I am hiring a wedding singer to sing a song at the ceremony, he said he would do it cheap if we let him promote himself at the cocktail hour and play with his band. needless to say, he got no arguement from me, lol
