Hi ladies, my fiance and I are about to start negotiating pricing and a menu w/the hall we're interested in and I wanted to know what you ladies thought. The venue we're going to book at offers 10 passed hor d'oeuvres and the following stations during cocktail hour: - Seasonal Fruit, Imported Cheeses & Vegetable Station - Antipasto & Mediterranean Dishes - Pasta Station with Assorted Breads (2 pastas w/2 sauces)
I'm used to the normal NY/LI wedding where you eat so much you have a heart attack on the dance floor and want to offer my guests the same thing. The food at this place is great so I wanted to know how many additional stations you ladies think is necessary? Currently, I'm thinking of adding at least 2 carving/grill stations and a sushi/sashimi station. I'd love any feed back!!
Thanks!!

Re: Cocktail Hour - Enough Food
usually what you mentioned is always included and then they give you a choice of about 3-5 additional stations. carving station is a good one..usually a hit
sushi sounds good....do you like any other seafood that maybe they offer? also the mashed potato bar is becoming possible or maybe a culture inspired station like spanish or something?
you dont want your guests getting so full that they dont enjoy their main entree

I definitely want them to enjoy the main menu (which is salad, appetizer and entree), but I feel like anything less and it would look paultry, you know? It's not so much about how much they can eat, but the variety they expect to see at a wedding, you know? And I don't want to be embarrassed by not offering a good spread.

Re: Cocktail Hour - Enough Food
Usually at most halls the carving stations (you can pick 2) are included in the CH without you having to pay extra. Dont worry about the CH, Im sure at dinner you will have plenty of food and dont forget dessert
What hall is this?

This is the Old Field Club. So you ladies think I should add even more than 3 additional stations? And if so, how many more?

Re: Cocktail Hour - Enough Food
My RH gives us 10 chafing dishes, 2 pastas, 1 wok station, mashed potato bar, sushi bar, 10 passed hors d'ouvres, 3 carvings, as well as the cheese, antipasto etc. I think you should definately push for more. While it's always so much more food than anyone could ever eat...people have come to expect a large selection

I think you should try to get more thrown in. My RH has a sick CH though, so I really can't judge. 10 hot dishes, antipasto/salad station, wine and cheese, pasta, carving, sushi, fruit and veggie, pass hor d'ouevres, and that's all standard. I would definitely try to get at least 2 more things thrown in, or weigh your options at other RHs.

Re: Cocktail Hour - Enough Food
I'm only doing passed hor d'ouevres (alot of them obviously) and then a med station...
I don't want people sitting and heaving plates into their mouths at cocktail hour...I want it to be 'cocktail hour'
Sorry if thats weird, just me!

Re: Cocktail Hour - Enough Food
people expect the best food to be at the CH with the most choices. My RH is giving 10-15 passed hd and 5 stations with 3 dishes at each station and we added a shrimp bar and sushi bar.
I would definitely look into that more. People prefer the CH over the main meal. Many times they feel it is too late in the evening to eat the main entree.
