yes to music for both. bands and dj's both have packages for about 6 hours of music...an hour for the ceremony (i know it won't take an hour-but people get there early, etc. ), an hour for the cocktail hour, and then 4 hours for reception.

I would definitely hire someone for the ceremony music or see if your DJ will do it. Many DJ's will also provide music for the CH. I've been to weddings that have CH music, and some that don't. To be honest, I don't think many people would notice. I have a calypso band at my CH and I think only my friends really noticed they were there.

i'm getting married at my hall too and yep, i needed to provide the music for the ceremony / cocktail hour.

and funny to ask about the cocktail hour, since i had to ask my friends whose weddings i attended whether or not there was music. one was supposed to, but the person never showed so there was none. none of us ever noticed either way

My wedding was 3 weeks ago and I went to a wedding this past weekend. I can honestly say that I didn't even notice the music at the CH. At my wedding, I know we had it, but I did not even hear it because I was so busy talking over all the other people. At the wedding I went to Sat., I don't even know if they were playing music during the CH. I would say don't go nuts over this, people probably won't even notice.

I do think music at the ceremony is nice, but if you are on a tight budget, you might be able to pre-record some songs and just have someone play it from the back or something.

Honestly, the only reason we are having music at the CH is b/c it is complimentary.

I've been to weddings where there was a beautiful quartet; however, you couldn't hear them unless you walked by them and I didn't notice them until I had walked by. Most people are talking and probably don't even notice the music.

I would have the music at the CH and Ceremony.. I think it is necessary and gets noticed by guests... I wouldn't be surprised if the bride doesn't notice it because when I got married the whole day was a blur!

But I do think it brings a certain something to the CH

I think it definitely adds something. We are having a singer during the CH -- he's really good.

We're having music for the CH, but not live music. I wanted a Frank Sinatra-type singer, but I realized that during the CH, no one really pays attention to that kind of stuff--they're too busy eating and mingling. I decided that to me it wasn't worth the extra expense.

We are having the DJ ( we got the CH for free) ...I can only remember one wedding with music and it was a piano player during the CH.

You do need to hire musicians for both. However, some bands will throw in a musician or two for the CH and/or ceremony.

I hired a classical trio to play for the ceremony because that was important to me. The band is having the keyboardist play during the CH. I would not have hired anyone otherwise. I really don't think most guests notice the CH music -- they're too busy eating and mingling.
