Cocktail hour music for multiple small-ish rooms?

Cocktail hour music for multiple small-ish rooms?

My location has 4-5, small-ish rooms for cocktail hour and I don't know what to do about music. Anyone else have the same issue? Are you putting speakers or musicians in just one room, in each room with the same music, or different music for different rooms? I'm concerned that the sound will not carry well from just one room but that if we try to put different music in more than one room, at the rooms furthest from each other, for example, that the sound will clash. If I want the same music in each room, I've been told it will cost a lot more because the speakers will all need to be wired together or a wireless system will need to be set-up.

Hello - I'm new to blogs and forums in general, but I'm the first of my friends to get married in the NY area so I need people to commiserate with that understand how much work this is!! We're getting married April 2011 and have already picked a location in Long Island and are working on the dress, photography, videography and music now!

My cocktail hour will also be across a few rooms. I am having a string quartet and will place them in just one room. I would ask other brides who are in the same venue as you what they did. I would also ask your banquet manager for their opinion and what works best. Ideally it will be a room that all will have to pass through at some point. If the rooms are close, perhaps the sound will carry through to some others. Good luck and congrats!

Thanks for the suggestions! I've been told by the venue the music will carry through most rooms thus its not necessary to have multiple set-ups for music during cocktail hour.

I have the SAME problem and I didn't even think to ask our dj about it. I kind of assumed that since I booked our cocktail performer through the dj, they would have it so the speakers went into the various rooms. I need to ask about this.

Same problem here too. I'm having someone play the piano in the biggest room....you can hear it in the other rooms too. Ch is about your guests talking anyway...the important music is during the dance party.....I mean dinner lol
