Cocktail Hour Music - LE brides especially need your opinion

Cocktail Hour Music - LE brides especially need your opinion

We can't decide what to do....

I am trying to have a formal black tie wedding with a beach flair.

I had planned to have a string quartet at the wedding for the cocktail hour.

But we went to the Lands End showcase and they had a steel band, it was fabulous. Cocktail hour is out on a deck along the water and it felt so festive. So here is my dilema.

If I have a steel band its more casual but its also very festive. It really says summer, beach front wedding. But what if it rains, it will make it feel even more depressing to have a steel band inside with the guests watching the rain, where a quartet will seem nice and appropriate.

So do I go with the steel band, stick to a string quartet, or do something else like a piano (which wouldn't really be heard on the deck) or a harp?

I wanted exactly the same feel for my wedding that you want We used Steel Sensations (probably the band you saw at the showcase, we first saw them there too!!) and they were fabulous...our guests said they felt like they were on an island in the Caribbean I also worried about rain but they sound great no matter what the weather...one of my friends was married there a few years ago, it rained and she also had the steel drum band and it made everyone there forget the rain lol. So if you really want the band and you are only worried about the rain I would say don't worry about it !!!

I love both....but I would probably opt for the quartet. Remember that a quartet can play 'modern' music as well and it sounds amazing. For example, I've heard great renditions of U2 songs.

That being said, steel bands are fun and the thought of one makes me smile. You can't go wrong with either.

I'd say the harp because it will give it such a nice touch but I am partial because I am having the harp at my cocktail hour and I am so excited about it. I think it's very romantic.

We booked the steel drum band recommended by Lands End. They have a website, their music is soooooo much fun and we can't wait. If you want some info FM me.
