Cocktail Hour Question

Cocktail Hour Question

I've seen a lot of comments about cocktail hours not having enough seats for everyone. I didn't think there were supposed to be enough seats to accommodate everyone during the cocktail hour - I thought it was more about mingling.

Are there supposed to be enough chairs for all wedding guests to sit? How are your cocktail hours set up?

all places think of it different. i know Watermill stress on it that they love the fact that ppl can sit and relax during CH! But on my hal search other places made it more of a miggling idea! i like having a place for everyone---just incase they want too sit!

Yes all places are different.
I was just at a wedding Sat and there wasn't enough seats. Alot of people were standing.
I requested that they had enough seating for everyone at my CT hour, the hall told us though that they put enough out. So speak to the person at the hall that you are working w/!

You are supposed to mingle and just use the tables when you want to eat something. Unfortunately, there are those people who get a table and stay there the entire time!

I prefer there to be a place for everyone to sit...in case everyone wants to sit...it is difficult to eat standing up (sometimes-depending on the food-and esp. for elderly people) I went to a wedding where there were NOT enough seats-not many at all-people were eating at the bar-and some right near the buffet area-almost pulling up a chair-people were crowding around small tables...imo it wasnt good for the guests

I agree, I think it should be about mingling and moving about, otherwise what is the point of the dinner?
I know we will not have enough seating for everybody and people will complain but we can't please them all....

Our hall doesn't have a lot of room for CH, we will see how it works out. There will def. not be enough seats for our guests..

I think there definitely should be enough of seats for everyone just in case but they don't have to be set up as they are in the main room with a lot of room between seats. As a guest though I always like to know that I can sit if I want to. It's something that is hall specific though unfortunately so be sure to ask!

Re: Cocktail Hour Question

I want there to be enough seats for everyone if they chose to sit. due to a lot of language barriers and elder guests coming to my wedding, i don't think that many people will mingle and stand up.

I didn't understand this as well and then I spoke with my mom...apparently in the past at cocktail hours you weren't supposed to sit, just have a little something and a drink. I think nowadays, with Long Island having such a big wedding industry, we've made the cocktail a big deal as well- more food and all- guests need a place to sit down to eat! People don't always assume that they will be sitting, however, that was something I wanted for my guests.

Westbury Manor said they had enough seating during the Cocktail Hour for 350 guests! I think people will definetly mingle but when I eat I want to sit!

Re: Cocktail Hour Question

I don't think my CH has a seat, hehe. i just assume people would use the high tables to eat and drink, talk and mingle the rest of the time.
