Cocktail Hour Question

My CH is 7:00- 8:30. Since it is a sunday night i was thinking of just making it an hour.

At first i really liked this idea, but am worried about people that have to go to work the next day or have to pick kids up after the wedding.

everyone is telling me to stop worrying about other people. that the everyone that will want to be there will make accomodations.

what would you do?? an 1 hr or 1.5 hr??

Re: Cocktail Hour Question

i, too, am having a sunday evening wedding, and while it is 'my night' i am trying to accomodate my family and friends who do have to work the nex morning. So, we're having CH from 6-7, and the main reception from 7-11:30pm

Re: Cocktail Hour Question

the reason why we did our reception when we did (night) was because it ends at 10 on a sunday. Our other choice would of been ending at 4 which is too early for me. Anyway, I would cut it down a half hour - hour is more then fine.

Re: Cocktail Hour Question

i am not even have a choice. it depends if the room for the reception is being used for a CH. i said i would think about it.

its not so much for people that have to work the next day, more parents that have to pick up their kids from the babysitters and the kids that have to go to school.

Most of the people from FH side is off on Mondays.. but they don't make up the whole wedding !

Re: Cocktail Hour Question

Mine starts at 6 and ends at 12. Its not late IMO. People will leave early, but then let them leave, they will miss out. They usualy wait till after the VH so dont worry

Re: Cocktail Hour Question

IMO people will leave early if they have too.. from what i have seen, there isn;t much of a difference w/ that extra 1/2 hour.. if you want it, by all means go ahead.. :)

I would do 1 hour but I am like you and worry about my guests.

Re: Cocktail Hour Question

I think an hour and a half is a bit much for the CH... you don't want people to eat and eat and eat for all that time and not be hungry for the main courses!

I think I would do an hour rather than an hour and a half.

Re: Cocktail Hour Question

i am not sure what i would do in the situation...however i agree with whoever it is who is telling you to do what you want and whoever wants to be there will make arrangements to be there...think about it...when you care enough about someone, wouldn't you do whatever you needed to in order to be there...people will do the same for you

Re: Cocktail Hour Question

Personally I think an hour is more than enough. They'll have another 4 hours (5 if you're doing Vienesse) of your wedding. I'm not worrying about what other people will do. If they want to be at my wedding they'll accommodate. Do what you and FH want to do.

Re: Cocktail Hour Question

our wedding ends at 12:30 on a Sunday night because of the hour & a half cocktail hour. We are night people, a LOT of people are staying at a hotel after the wedding & it's the day before Martin Luther King Jr. Day - so a lot of people are off...

You have to do what YOU want to do....it's your day!! I'll come if i have to & stay until the minute you walk out the door so you don't feel alone!!!!

Re: Cocktail Hour Question

if its not a holiday weekend than its late for a sunday imo.....i dislike sunday weddings b/c we either have to leave early or take off of work on monday. but we always end up having a great time either way - once your guests are there i am sure they will have a good time and forget about the time. if you are worried that its going to be too late than cut the CH to 1 hour. we are doing the opposite and extending the CH b/c its a friday night and we want everyone to make it in time - we know some people will be traveling from work. our CH is 6:30-8.

people will leave early if they have to no matter what....personally i think 1 hr is MORE than enough time, but that's just me....i would keep it from 7-12. Are your doing VH???

Re: Cocktail Hour Question

i am very confused. my FH said its only a 1/2 hr. more & people will leave early no matter what. we are not having a venetian hr, no boq/garter toss, and unfortunately no dance with my dad. so thats cuts alot of time. my hands may be tied anyway if there is an CH going on in my reception room. so i may be stressing for nothing.

thanks for your opinions.. much appreciated.
