I've been reading all your posts for about 6 weeks now since we got engaged in April, but this is my first post!
I'm going with the FH to our RH today to sign the contracts and was wondering if anyone else negotiated about the food during the cocktail hour. It seems like an insane amount of food included in the package, all before the enormous dinner starts! So the question is - has anyone found RH's amenable to cutting food out of the cocktail hour to be replaced by either one 'enhancement' menu item or upgrading a dinner item (like strip steak to filet, etcl)?
Thanks for the info!

Re: Cocktail Hour Question
nope, I wouldnt recommend cutting things out of CH, I am a picky eater and usually dont eat very much during CH b/c the choices arent always things I like. That is how most people are they will eat a handful of things but not everything. During CH alot of your guests will be talkin to others, that hour goes by pretty fast so if you are worried about people eating TOO much I wouldnt worry about that

Re: Cocktail Hour Question
No, I didn't even think about reducing anything during cocktail hour. FH and I actually added two appetizers onto the menu- pigs in a blanket and scallops wrapped in bacon!!! I agree, it is an insane amount of food but it is also everyone's favorite part And not everyone likes everything that is served, so guests pick and choose. It's your wedding though, so negotiate w/ them if this is what you want!!

Re: Cocktail Hour Question
Most comments about the wedding is not the food served during the dinner. Most people won't even eat it because they are in dancing and drinking mode. The rave is always the cocktail hour and all the variety fo foods they have. Many people today are trying to eliminate the sit down dinner for a 'continous cocktail hour' which goes on most the evening. Believe it or not, the price doesn't change much from either type since the continuous runs a lot longer. But something to check into.

Re: Cocktail Hour Question
Coacktail hr is the best part!!!!! Most people actually like that better than the dinner...but it doenst hurt to ask if thats what you want...always remember the worst thing they can say is no..and your in the same boat anyway!

Re: Cocktail Hour Question
we had the same feeling about too much food and asked if we eliminated some could we get a lower price. Now they seemed to want to keep a certain per person price and instead offered ot add things, what would we like to close the deal? we were looking for desserts rather than more CH food so went that way with viennese trays on tables and chocolate fountain.
this was especially nice cause we only had a 60 person guarantee and didn't think they would want to add anything for us.
but with us, almost everyone did say way too much CH food altho they really liked it.

Re: Cocktail Hour Question
I agree with leaving a variety for CH.
If you maybe want to upgrade a dinner entree and cut something else out, perhaps cut out one of the salads or pastas out that is sometimes served before the meal.

Don't subtract from it at all. Most people assume that the entree will be a hit or miss so they gorge during the CH.
