I am interested in a reception hall, but they are saying my cocktail hour would be from 730-9. At first I was excited they were giving me an extra half hour, but now I am doing the math and that means my guests won’t sit down to eat until 9--with salad and pasta they won’t be eating their entree until 10pm!! That's crazy right?
Anyone else dealing with something similar? I want to ask to move it up, but this place has two weddings at a time. I think they do this to allow enough clean up time.

Re: Cocktail Hour/ Reception Time
My cocktail hur is 7-8:30. and the reception 8:30-12:30. Its only a half hour off from you. But i dont think its a big deal. Its not lik they will be starving, they will be eating at cocktail hour anyway. I feel like thats when most people eat, ad never have their dinner. lol

Re: Cocktail Hour/ Reception Time
My cocktail hour doesn't start until 8:30, so my guests will be a half hour behind yours. As the previous post suggests, no one will starve because they'll have plenty to eat during the cocktail hour.

Re: Cocktail Hour/ Reception Time
My cocktail hour doesn't start until 8.. It is actually one of things I am most worried about my wedding... the late start!
I asked to change the time but they said I couldn't. BLAH!

same situation for me my cocktail hour is at 8 and the reception starts at 9. we ended up choosing to do ceremony at 6 so it didnt feel like the party started so late. i also convinced myself that its a saturday night and people like to party on saturday nights anyway and if anyone whines i fully intend to ignore it.

Re: Cocktail Hour/ Reception Time
We decided to extend our CH by another 30 mins so that we can start at 7. so CH goes from 7:00-8:30 and the reception from 8:30-12:30.
We didn't feel comfortable with a 7:30 start because we are having a church ceremony. The latest that most Catholic Churches do weddings is 3 pm on a Saturday. So we wanted to narrow down the in-between time as much as we could.

Re: Cocktail Hour/ Reception Time
My only concern would be that most people tend to leave a wedding by 12 midnight. Not the younger crowd, but the older. So people may miss the later part of the party, but that might just be me.
Ours was 6:30-7:30 cocktail, 7:30-12:30 reception and most guests left at 12. We paid for an additional hour.
