What is everyone doing for their cocktail hr entertainment??? Do you think a Frank Sinatra singer is cheesy? I love the music but I'm looking for something low key and classy because my reception band is LOUD and upbeat! Any suggestions?

We are getting a Steel Band for the cocktail hour also... We were going to get a Frank Sinatra singer for dinner time but changed our minds.

Re: Cocktail HR Music
My sister had a sinatra singer and he was SO good, you had to really look at him to tell it wasn't really frank sinatra. it was crazy! She did it during dinner and EVERYONE loved it. People lined up to shake his hand. it was great.
I'd do it during dinner though, not CH. During dinner people are sitting and can enjoy it, during the CH it's much mor frenetic motin, people walking around to get food the music often fades into the background or sets the mood, which is good for just music like steel drums or a jaz trio or something, but with a vocalist like that, they'll enjoy it more if they can sit and hear it during dinner

Re: Cocktail HR Music
we're having our DJ play dinner music. But, sicne you're having a band...you can separately hire a two piece-three piece instrument band just for cocktail. Violins, or sax, or keyboardist.

Re: Cocktail HR Music
Since we are having our ceremony at the reception site, I was thinking of having a string quartet play for both the ceremony and cocktail hour.
If you like Sinatra, than go for it! It's classy, yet good mingle music!

Re: Cocktail HR Music
I'm having Gene Santini sing during my CH (he does Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Armstrong). It's not cheesy at all, it's very elegant and classy, IMO.
And I'd do it during the CH, not during dinner.

Re: Cocktail HR Music
i have a band so they have 1 person on keyboard for the CH (but there is a piano there so i will ask them to use that) i think that would be a great idea (the frank singer)....but also piano is a good light way to go as well.

Re: Cocktail HR Music
There is no piano in the cockatil room so it'd have to be electric....NOT the same! There is also no sound system so we'd have to hook something up if we wanted to play CD's. I think that takes away from the room? Am I crazy?

Re: Cocktail HR Music
We're having a calypso band for CH. If you're having a DJ, they should be able to bring a system to set up in the room for cocktail hour if you just want to play music. Let them worry about that if there's no set up, thats their job.
