cocktail music - list yours

Our dj is doing our music for both but it needs to be prerecorded for both and he does a live thing for the reception.

Well i got done with my ceremony music. I have every song in order to be played on my itunes playlist and I have the bp songs done. Picked mostly irish ballads and such.

Now i am working on cocktail hour and I am getting stumped a bit. Fh and I are not classical music light jazz people. We also attend many social functions with the family and music is a big part of it. Our taste is very different from people so what we are doing is a mix of non-stuffy borring music to be played NOT LOUD but just audible.

ANYWAY i figured if your having different music then the usual stuff during your cocktail hour maybe we can start a list so we can bounce ideas. Artists and songs or just artists. I got this idea fron indie bride since they do a lot of this.

So far i have

Irish drinking songs done by dropkick murphys, dubliners.

Folky rock such as dylan and the band, moody blues, america.

Contempory music such as cindi lauper, corrs, cranberries, fiest, porgues, sarah mclaughlin, etc.

Metal (not my type of metal but fh's stuff and nothing too insane and mostly instrumental), dark angel, iron maiden, scatterbrain.

Other music like Blues Brothers, can't think of who else i added (sorry).

I hope it works out for our wedding if not I am asking the dj to have something 'stuffy' on hand to switch just in case my family starts to get their panties in a bunch.

So what are you playing?

We want to do fun music, not stuffy either, but more of the latin jazz, salsa, 70's funk vibe. Think Buena Vista Social Club soundtrack with a sprinkle of James Brown and upbeat Ray Charles.....

MY GUests are so loud and they probably won't even notice the music so i am going to try and NOT focus too much on this only bc with all the other music choices i am spending so much time on haha.

For some reason i notice at events that doo wop is big to play while ppl are eating, maybe ill just tell the dj to play some of those...maybe some soul songs not slow beat but like aretha franklin and stuff like that. I dont want to waste any songs i like and play it at the CH, im gonna save them. I might throw in just a few songs i like, oh and a little bit of brazilian drums and that sort of stuff

We are having the guitarist from our band play brazillian music solo (his specialty). Very laid back but happy music I guess can describe it. lol I think thats a bit different than the average stuffy music!
