In an effort to cut costs...and stray from the typical LI Wedding
I thought about having a cocktail style party, instead of a typical sit down dinner for the wedding
Either incorporate the CH into the reception...or do an extended CH(maybe 2 hours)
and then have a VH at the end
What do you girls think?
FH thinks it looks 'cheap'
I think:
CH food is better anyway Most people are super full by the time dinner comes Dinner just interrupts the party anyway, more time for dancing!
do you think it will cut costs? would you like a wedding that just had a really big CH? would you feel like the couple, cheaped out?
TIA!

I read in a book once that this is one of the top 100 ways to save money on a wedding and still be fabulous! So, don't worry, it won't look cheap and if there is one thing I learned thus far is look out for YOU and not everyone else. who cares what they think. In the end what matters is you didnt put yourself debt or in hock lol, you still had your wedding, and you married the love of your life. Also, people will talk anyway...that's what they do. Do what's good for YOUR pocket! =)
my thoughts exactly!

Re: Cocktail Party?
some places actually will charge you more for a cocktail style party than a sit down dinner. Simply based on the fact that they have to provide so much more food. Think about how much more food goes into cocktail hour. now times that by 3 hours and its a lot. Some halls will skimp on the food a little more.
If you really sit down with your RH and talk about how much food you want and what you actually want to serve they should be able to work with you on creating a less expensive menu and still make it look great.

Re: Cocktail Party?
I also thought a cocktail party would be more 'us' more a party feel and a way to save money...
When i looked into places in Manhattan; Queens & even long island. I found it to be exactly the same if not MORE.
Prices they were giving me were like $4-$5 per passed appetizer per person. So 100 pieces of say spanikopita for $4; but you need at least 4-5 pieces per person. Then $200 for different platters (veggies; cheeses etc). Then extra for chaffing dishes of hot food.
PLUS the alochol was on top of that which was typically an extra $45-$60pp for open bar (top shelf).
I can e-mail you tons of information i received from places in the city. But it wasn't as cost effective as i thought it might have been.
