Cocktail Reception?

Cocktail Reception?

My FH and I think that we want just a cocktail reception in the afternoon as opposed to a sit down. Has anybody had or are planning a cocktail reception?

Is assigned seating necessary? How is the flow of the reception? Is it normally shorter than a regular reception? Any info would be great!

I need some ideas on what RHs offer it as well.

Thanks!

Re: Cocktail Reception?

It's normally the same amount of time - 4 hours. The only difference from a traditional reception, is that it's 5 hours, with the 1 hour Cocktail Hour. Since you're having the cocktail reception - you'll need the 4 hours and can skip the cocktail hour.

It's a lot more casual, and assigned seating is not necessary. However, do have enough seats for everyone - they'll want to sit during parts of the reception, and you won't want to be left w/guests standing.

Not much difference, and I think it's a great idea for an afternoon wedding!

My friend went to a wedding like this. She said it was nice and fine. It is about an hour shorter than a normal reception since you are eliminating the cocktail hour. I think it's more of an informal setting, so assigned seating is not necessary but do make sure that you have enough seats for everyone.
