Re: Cocktail reception
a friend of mine is sort of doing one, its going to be mostly a cocktail reception with a buffet, no assigned seating....they want it to be very free flowing and let people eat and dance when they want.....i like the idea

Re: Cocktail reception
yea, that's what we want. Instead of a buffet though, we will have 'stations' around the room.

Re: Cocktail reception
Those make me nervous... I'd hate for your older relatives to struggle for a seat. I just like knowing that if I leave my seat to go to the bathroom or dance, no one is going to steal it. JMO

I don't want to do assigned seating. But, I am wondering what will ladies do with heir purses? Also, how will the tables look, will there be place settings?

Maybe let them chose but, make it know thats where they should stay for the time frame. I know my cousin didnt have assigned seating and it didnt work for them. People fought for seats and then were afraid to leave their seat to use the bathroom or dance in fear they wouldnt be able to seat there again. Sorry but, that was the experince we had.

Also, I dont want to sound like a jerk but a lot of people dont know that cocktail receptions are just around as expensive as sit down receptions and they may give you less as a gift.

We're planning on having a buffet, but we're insisiting on assigned seating for just the reasons mentioned.
