Cocktail Reception

Has anyone attended a wedding that was a cocktail reception? If so, yay or nay?

Do you know of any venues that offer this?

TIA!

Cocktail Reception - Long Island Weddings

I attended one at Flowerfields back in 2009. It was great and I think I actually ate more lol. They had the standard cocktail hour, then we moved into the ballroom and they had stations set up all over the room. Later that night they set up different stations. I think if you are very certain that they do it well and your guests will be more than satisfied, it is a great alternative to the sit down dinner. One negative was the need to get up and down to get the food-- which usually doesn't stop me, but our chairs were so tight that no one wanted to get up the whole night. You wouldn't think of these things ahead of time.

Three village inn offers this for a great rate as well as Venetian Yacht Club! I never been to one but I inquired when I was looking for a wedding alternative.
