Do you know how many people she had at the wedding?

Any reason in particular you want to have this? I think it'll almost be harder to plan and will definitely limit where you can host your wedding.

I didn't go...but my friend got married there and had 400 people...I also went to two other weddings with under 100 guests so they can go either way

The Vanderbilt at South Beach in Staten Island mentioned that they host cocktail receptions. dont know if you want to look in that area.

I went to one and was not impressed. I also did not like standing on line waiting for food while the music was playing and wanting to dance. I'm sure it depends on the hall.

I asked about doing that for my wedding and was told that cost wise, it is pretty much the same and after a while people want a break from CH anyway so its nice later on to serve another meal.

I have also heard of one at the DeSeversky Center where they had all the food in one room for a few hours and later on went into another room afterwards for dancing and then back to the original room for dessert. No seating plan, I heard that was not good.

Definitely depends on the hall. Believe it or not some RH's charge more for this.

Some do a good job at this but some don't. I went to one and let me say i barely ate anything. And most people around me were all saying the same thing. There wasn't much food. THen finally half way through some food was brought out and there was a huge line, by the time i got up most of it was gone and it was cold. This was a different type of location not like a typical RH so might've been why.

Majestic Gardens does this and they give a lot of food. You will have pass and display food. Check them out, it can hurt.

thats where I went and it was awful. Not much food. they did a small cocktail hour two hot dishes and cold displays (very unimpressed, the mozzerella was not even fresh) and a few passed hd's. Later it was like a buffet with 6 dishes on each side of the room, I thought the food was inedible. sorry. The dessert was little cheesecakes passed in plastic cups. One of the worst weddings I've ever been to.

Yes!!! Great idea if done right. My brother did one and it was amazing. I actually wanted to do one myself but we have such a large family and as we started to plan, I decided to go with a more traditional one but if I didn't have the family to deal with, I would have done this. If you are ok with going into NYC, Manhattan has a ton of places to do something like this that won't break the bank. Check out the Alger Mansion (that's where my brother's was) or Manhattan Penthouse. Basically you can rent out these lovely loft spaces, cater in for drinks and high end hors douevres (Sp) or maybe a couple of carving stations. And it is wonderful. Both of these are run by the same catering place. My brother's wedding was awesome.

Re: Cocktail Style Wedding

Just reread through some of the others comments and what I would say is it is all about the place you pick...if you do a Friday night at 8pm, and have a good place with a couple of amazing carving stations and other things people can munch on, it is great. No one wants to stand in lines or have a long buffet line. But what my brother had was this awesome loft space - later start than normal so people know they should eat beforehand. Great food to munch on if you do get hungry with some cocktail tables to the side to do that and otherwise it was drinks and dancing and mingling all night. It was seriously one of the best weddings I've ever been to. Again, I agree with the other girls, you need to pick the right spot with a good caterer and great ambiance to set the mood.

I went there for a traditional wedding, but I knew they did those type of packages because I was thinking of doing my wedding there. Sorry it didn't work out but they might have changed. The package I saw was a lot of food for four hours. It could have been the package.

its funny but the one i went to, we saw their menu beforehand and it was a very long list of things. All of it was passed in the beginning and i only saw them come out with 3 things and by the time it even came near us it was all gone so i didnt get to have 1 thing that was passed the first hour or two i think, and nobody i was with had anything either. I was excited at first bc i love appetizer type food but i dont know where all the food was that i saw on their menu before bc i didnt see it. If its stations the way it is at all cocktail hours for example then that is great. Bc even when you go around during ch the lines usually arent that long and you always get lots of stuff. Unfortunately this wasn't like that. Everybody left STARVING and right after we went to get food ASAP
