Coindre Hall

Anyone have any feedback on Coindre Hall - my girlfriend is going to look at it over the weekend and wants to know if anyone has any info (good or bad) on the place.

Thanks!!!!!!!

Re: Coindre Hall

I had researched that hall and didn't even make an appt to see the place for the following: no ac - in early Oct you might still need it, the food isn't prepared on premises and that seemed too complicated to actually work if it were shipped over, etc. and finally - the DJ or band would have to set up in a separate room from where the guests will be seated. I didn't want to separate everyone, since sometimes guests like to sit and watch others dancing, and mingle around all together.

it was too bad because the place sounded beautiful.

edited to add: This was all about 2 ½ yrs ago so some details may have changed. I just remember thinking it wasn't more popular for a reason. Your friend should still definitely see the place for herself

Your friend should definitely view Coindre Hall for herself.

Either you love it or you don't.

Just to let you know they have installed AC, so it should be fine for summer weddings. The problem I had with it was that dinner would be in one room with dancing in another. However, it is a really unique location and I've never been to a wedding there so I'm not sure if having dinner and dancing in different rooms is really a problem or not.

I'll be honest, we didn't like the appearance of the mansion. It seemed kind of run down (I viewed it this past August.) We also didn't the like the view of the parking lot and the gymnasium when you looked out the windows to see the harbor.

We ended up booking with Lessings anyway, just not Coindre Hall.

Its a pretty location...but the grounds aren't that nice. Like Jenny said- the view is a parking lot and a field before the water. I've never been inside the mansion though. I heard it was redone.

the no ac turned us away...and we couldn't get in touch with a 'human' we kept leaving messages...and then they would leave messages...it just wasn't meant to be for us

They have a/c now. The dining hall is ideal for smaller weddings - it's a horseshoe of rectangular tables. There are no outdoor capabilities - that's what turned us off from it.

Wow, thanks for your input!!!

I had never heard anything about the place. She just wanted someplace different with good food but the whole operation sounds a bit shady. I know she won't like the dinner in one room and dancing in another.

I guess you are right - if it was more popular I would have heard more about the place.

I'll tell her not to bother. She lives in NYC and there are so many other places she'd be better off looking at.

Re: Coindre Hall

I saw Coindre this past winter, and my FI and I still laugh about it. Just not what we were looking for.

That said, Lessing also caters at Bourne Mansion, which is, IMO, a beautiful old estate. Definitely worth looking at if your friend wants to get married in an old Gold Coast mansion (that was what I was looking for as well). Other Long Island mansions: there is the Vanderbilt Mansion, there is another mansion right near Bourne, the name escapes me, but it's on the grounds of a college, and there is De Seversky. De Seversky is lovely, but the construction right around the site has taken away some of its charm.

She is looking for October of 2004 so she has plenty of time but her invite list is at like 200 and wanted to stay below $100pp. I will mention the Bourne Mansion to her - thanks!!!!

I booked Coindre Hall (before my ex-was an ex)and we were not thrilled about the seperate dance room and dining room but we were considering having the continuous cocktail reception. It would have made it nice however, I'm now going with Smithtown Landing also catered by Lessings. Great Place!

Re: Coindre Hall

I looked at Coindre Hall and was disappointed. There were a lot of issues, not the least of which being, the place needed a good cleaning and new paint and carpets. Its just seemed shabby (that was approx. 2 years ago).

Re: Coindre Hall

The problem w/Coindre Hall is that it is owned by the county (no funds for renovations), where as the Bourne Mansion is privately owned (St. John's Univ.). Lessings only has catering rights. They don't own the facility (that's why there are site fees involved with both locations.)

I was really keeping my fingers crossed with Coindre Hall b/c it's not too far from my church/ceremony and home, and I also have crew (rowing) memories from there (the guesthouse used to be our boathouse.) Like I mentioned, I was a bit disappointed with the 'upkeep'. We viewed the Bourne Mansion the day after we viewed Coindre Hall and booked it on the spot.
