Color Schemes and Reception Hall Decor

Color Schemes and Reception Hall Decor

Hi girls,

I'm new to the boards - still deciding on a wedding date and location - and something popped into my head just now and I wanted to get everyone's opinions....

Does your color scheme (dresses, bouquets, centerpieces) need to match the decor in your reception hall?? I have my heart set on certain flowers, but I worry that they won't match the rooms we've seen!

What are your thoughts?

TIA!

i don't think it matters for things to match the room itself ... you can always get custom table linens and chair covers and uplighting

Def don't think they need to match. I can't even remember what color the ballroom is at my place.

It doesn't have to match but I would take it into consideration. Some RH's have very distinct colors in their rooms from carpets, wallpaper, drapes etc.
I would just keep it in mind.

I originally thought of that when I was picking colors but then decided I didn’t care. Our room had like a yellow/brown border and our colors were navy and bright pink so it TOTALLY didn’t match… but honestly I really don’t think anyone noticed.

I don't think so. Mine is a neutral shade so it goes with most colors.

I think it depends on what the colors are in the room. I saw pictures from a friend of a friend whose RH was all deep reds and gold and rich colors, but they chose lavendar and yellow linens and flowers and it didn't really look that great in the photos. JMO though.

I had my colors before my hall. I picked my hall because the ballroom is really a blank slate to work with.

ita! I looked at the carpet and curtains to make sure they weren't like BRIGHT red and BRIGHT orange when my colors are dark jewel colors
but like some others said once everything is set up you wont really notice the carpet.

I think it does matter bc you don't want your colors to clash with the colors of the room...thats why I liked my hall it was so nuetral I could use whatever color I like

i agree. I would just make sure it 'goes' or doesn't completely clash. If everything ties in, i think it'll give you a more cohesive look and you won't have to worry about spending additional $$ on linens, chair cover, etc.

I think it only matters if your RH has some hardcore colors and decor going on.

But I think most people look at the RH and the colors of the flowers/BM dresses as 2 seperate things.

If you walk into a room and the first thing you notice is the color of the rug or wall paper - i think that would be something for you to keep in mind.

Yeah, I don't think that it really matters, BUT, for example, Crest Hollow (my RH) has burgundy chairs that are difficult/expensive to cover. If you have something like that, you may want to consider matching the colors. JIMHO.

I think that if the room has a dominant, noticeable color, you might want to take that into account. But if you have specific flowers and you are afraid they wont match, maybe you can incorporate the flowers somewhere else in the RH. I realllly wanted red roses, but our main room has a distinct carpet with dark blue and tan patterns. So I am using red roses for my cocktail hour and at the escort card table, and more neutral flowers/ivory roses for the main room.

I picked my colors before the hall but I would say that colors should be considered. Most places dont have stand out colors that could maybe clash with your colors so it will probably not be a problem.

I wouldn't worry about the colors of the hall, there are so many other options you can do that no one will notice..
for example i'm having a black and white theme and im going to have colored linens and the bridesmaids are in black, etc
no one else will even realize that the colors of the hall are

I picked my colors first.
I def had a vision I was working with.... and went looking for it when I went RH shopping.

i was torn between lilac and light blue as my color, when i went to the RH, my FSIL held up the lilac and blue napkins against the yellow of the RH decor, and i knew it had to be the blue. the lilac and yellow looked UGLY....i love the look of the pale blue with the pale yellow of the hall....

so i guess it did matter a bit to me.
