We are considering changing our wedding date to Columbus Day Weekend (the SUnday of) in 2004. A lot of the reason is becasue it is going to be interfaith, but there are so many holy days in April, between Passover and Easter that its making things a little more difficult in finding a Rabbi/Priest combo. ANyways, we were now considering Columbs Day Weekend (Sunday) becasue we are hoping Sunday will cost less, and with it being a Holiday weekend, all of our out of towners will not have a problem spending SUnday Night. I know some of you have said that some Holidays you can get a good deal on. IS Columbus Day considered Peak still? Is it considered a Holiday? Any advice would be totally appreciated!!
Thanks a Bunch in Advance!!

Re: Columbus Day Weekend?
I'm not positive, but I would think that the Sunday before Columbus day would be considered like a Saturday. You should just call some catering halls you're interested in and just ask. I'm sure they would tell you over the phone.
Good Luck

Re: Columbus Day Weekend?
We looked at Columbus day weekend (Sun) this year and the places we asked charged a regular Sunday night fee...typically its about the same as a Friday night fee.

Re: Columbus Day Weekend?
My friend had her wedding that Sunday night before Columbus Day because it was a good deal and figured many people are off the next day (not me) anyway. She said it was more affordable.

Re: Columbus Day Weekend?
My wedding is Sun. before Columbus Day - 10/12/03. I did save $25/pp at my reception site, but really didn't save much on other vendors. We did get a good deal on the hotel (Sheraton) for the OOTG too.
So far none of our guests have that Monday (Columbus Day) off, but most are willing to take that Monday off regardless.

Re: Columbus Day Weekend?
another good thing about our date was that we pretty much had no competition w/getting vendors & were free to pick & choose whomever we wanted. Only 1-2 were booked on our date.

Re: Columbus Day Weekend?
It is not considered a holiday or chaged at Saturday prices becasue not everyone has off. I am getting married the sunday before columbus day of this year and it is cheaper that the other days

Re: Columbus Day Weekend?
Actually, some reception sites do charge more $ even tho Columbus day isn't officially a holiday.
I visited Leonards & they actually tacked on another $15/pp because it was 'the Sunday before a holiday' - I told them well NOBODY gets that day off anymore & its not an official observed holiday but Leonard's said they consider Columbus Day a holiday so . . . who know's maybe they just didn't want my biz? Had I set a date for the Sunday before or after Columbus Day weekend, I would've saved about $40/pp.

Re: Columbus Day Weekend?
My wedding is the sunday of columbus day weekend this year...At my reception hall this was how it worked--- * October is still a 'peak month' so no discount there. * I was charged a regular sunday night charge but they were less willing to negotiate because some people do have off the next day.
I also have to tell you that I started looking at reception halls in AUgust...so so so many of the places we looked were booked for this date. Even my reception hall was booked and then someone cancelled...I think it is a very popular date because it is a nice time of the year, sunday is cheaper AND many people have off the next day...so if you are interested i would move on it.

Re: Columbus Day Weekend?
I booked my date at Crest Hollow on Columbus Day weekend 2004, and all the places we looked at gave us the same price as if it was a regular Sunday. We got Crest Hollow down to $90 pp, which is pretty good for October. We did bargain though. However, this is a popular weekend, so I would move if you are going to book. The vendors don't necessarily give you a better price, they pretty much have standard pricing that doesn't depend on the month or day.

Re: Columbus Day Weekend?
I originally looked at the Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend 2003. Most of the halls I looked at were charging regular Sunday night prices. Thr prices did not go up because the next day was a holiday. Just my experience though.
