Yep..I've seen it at weddings and we booked the band/DJ as well.

DJ takes over entrance songs, first dance, father/daugher, cake cutting...etc. For that stuff i'd rather hear the original artist sing because the band sounds very different.

Also, when the band has to break, the DJ takes over so it's not like elevator music. The DJ is also in charge of announcements and time tables. I would think they would have a better hold on the announcements than a band.
