communion etiquette question

We have a communion to go to for one of craigs good friends on saturday
craig said its going to be a long day if we go to church and the party b/c of feeding/walking the dogs, etc.... and he cant then go to the gym lol

he thinks he has to call and ask his friend if he should be at church

My questions are this
1. I think he should not call, what do you think? I think we should just not go?
2. isnt church more for family no matter how good a friend, I went to my friends daughters communion two weeks ago, I was the only non-family member, there
3. dont they get like one row, and mostly family go??

I told DH if we just go to the party that his friend will not even notice b/c no way do all the people who go to the party go to church no matter how good a friend, do you agree???

thanks

Re: communion etiquette question

I agree with you Tam, we went to one and did go to the church and we were the only non-family members there. The rest of our friends just showed up for the party

Re: communion etiquette question

its really only family at the Church.

Most kids only get one pew, so if they have a big family you will probably not sit with them anyway.

Re: communion etiquette question

I just went to a communion this past saturday and we did not go to the church. We were invited but decided not to go ( we live in astoria and the church was in valley stream and dinner in west hempstead) so it was too much time in between. It is perfectly fine, especially for a communion, i believe its only for the family and although we were invited, its not bad that we didnt go.

Re: communion etiquette question

I dont think it is necessary to call if you are not attending the church. Like other posts, mostly immediate family attends the church.

Re: communion etiquette question

Oh, you totally don't have to go to the church OR call. Usually only the close family goes to the church. No worries, just go to the party
