Communion question...

We were invited to the communion of an ex coworkers son. We still keep in touch with her. We have never met the son.
We will not be attending as we have to work on that day.
I am Jewish, so I have NO idea what to give for a gift. Dh is no help. I was thinking a check for $50? Is that appropriate? Help!

I think that's a very nice gift, especially since you've never met him.
