communion song - catholic church girls

i tried to do a 'non-traditional' song for my communion hymn...the organist said NO.

lovely........anyway, what communion songs is everyone choosing?

I am not having a mass but 'Table of Plenty' is a good one too- a little more upbeat but appropriate!

We did the Phatom of the Opera song (and Ave Maria). The Phantom song was amazing. My priest was cool. He let us have non-religious songs as long as they weren't like, 'I want your sex...'

'We Come to Your Feast', 'I am the Bread of Life' and 'Blest Are They' are also good ones. 'All Good Gifts' from Godspell is also good.

Not a huge fan of 'One Bread, One Body', the lyrics never sit quite right with me.

We chose a classical piece since we had a string quartet at our mass.

Yes, you might have to go to a religious website to hear it, I don't know if there is a recording on-line, but your organist will know it and should be able to sing some of it for you. Here are the lyrics, it's basically the Beatitudes put to music:

1. Blest are they, the poor in spirit, theirs is the kingdom of God. Blest are they, full of sorrow, they shall be consoled.

Chorus: Rejoice and be glad! Blessed are you, holy are you! Rejoice and be glad! Yours is the kingdom of God!

2. Blest are they, the lowly ones, they shall inherit the earth. Blest are they who hunger and thirst, they shall have their fill.

3. Blest are they who show mercy, mercy shall be theirs. Blest are they, the pure of heart, they shall see God.

4. Blest are they, who seek peace, they are the children of God. Blest are they who suffer in faith, the glory of God is theirs.

5. Blest are you who suffer hate all because of me. Rejoice and be glad, yours is the kingdom, shine for all to see.

I sing this with my Children's choir and it's one of their favorites.
