Whenever I order Penne something, most places make mostaccioli instead. Penne is a shorter length. It's different! If I wanted long tubes, i'd order rigatoni.
What's the deal? Are they being cheap? Mostaccioli takes up more space, it's true, but why call it penne in the first place? Do most people not know what mostaccioli is? Do they not want to confuse people? Is it sooo similar to Penne that they say SCREW IT and call it penne? I guess all that it true?
I'm a doofus and ranting about something stupid, so ignore me.

Mostaccioli is longer tubes, penne is shorter. It's more evident when the pasta is cooked.
Mostaccioli and Penne are both available from Barilla.

When I ask for ziti I sometimes get penne..They think it is interchangeable I think. It is not the same at all... but I guess if I close my eyes it is.....

This definitely happens to me too.
I can't close my eyes/look the other way on any pasta. You're talking to a person who LOVES spaghetti but doesn't really like linguini!
