computer question??

computer question??

my mom gave me her laptop. She has been paying for msn internet service. I now want to use the same service at MY house- i have been trying to log on with her password, and i seem to be getting connected at my house but i never do, Im not able to access the web at all. Does it matter which house i use it in-

i works in my moms house but not mine. I figured since it IS a laptop that it could be used ANYWHERe

ANybody have some insight to this

It shouldn't matter where you are to use the laptop, therefore the beauty of a laptop to be able to take it anywhere. Are you sure your connection is working? Plugging it into a phone line? That is the only thing I think could be wrong if you are hooking it up the same way as you did at your mom's...does this help any?

I agree that I SHOULD be able to use it anywhere but for some reason I cant get on. im not sure why- i htnk ill call them tonight.

Are you in the same area code? Maybe it is the acces number you are dialing in on?

we actually live around the corner from my mom so we use the same numbers to dial out.

Good idea Niecey...could be the dial in number too. I forget since it has been so long since I had dial up...is the number busy? Maybe change the number you are dialing in to...

it says actually get 'connected' when I dial up then it seems that i cant access the web at all.

So you dial in and it connects but doesn't let you surf the web? Hmmm, that is weird...I would call MSN support...try changing the number you dial in to as well, although that may not change anything if you can connect. Something is freezing it, you've tried rebooting and the same thing happens?

I have been having LOTS of problems with MSN for about a month now on and off. Every few days it connects, and then won't sign on. So I can connect to the web by then going to programs and getting on thru Internet Explorer. I tried calling them the first time and they told me it was their problem. The next time I called a week later they told me 'well you have to upgrade a program so it will be compatable' I said to them 'I was on an hour ago- what do you mean' - their response 'well see some people will have trouble if they don't have a certain upgrade to Explorer' Well why didn't you tell me I need this' well see if only affects some people and not others so we figured rather than notifying people we simply figured that they would call us and complain when they couldn't get in and we would tell them then.'
Well - long story short- my computer HAS the program that they tell me I needed - and I couldn't connect at school either so I KNOW it was MSN. By the way I could get into my email and everything the next day...hmmmm.
Try clicking on IE after it dials - you won't get into your mail but you can surf the web or at least come on here. (sorry this was so long)

Now that you just posted that, Rob luvs me, I remember my father having that same problem with MSN, he was on the phone with them numerous times and it was always their problem and he needed to download something...it finally worked but obviously there are some issues with MSN if a lot of people experience that.
