I called Con Edison to create an account and have them switch the bill to our name, they asked for the address, I gave it and they say it is an unknown address, I said how is that? He said are you sure that's correct...um yea?! He said well its not coming up, this is not an imaginary address ***!!!

go or send them a fax with the copy of you lease or contract from the real state, or your agent can help you send some type of proof.

Is it an apartment complex?? If so, you most likely have a unit # that you have to give them, this is what we had to do-its not our physical address. Ask the leasing agent you spoke to, they should be able to give you the unit #

well, lipa/keyspan isn't any better. the prior tennant in our apartment didn't pay her bills, and was evicted.... when we moved in and tried to connect the power/gas, they treated us like we were criminals. I told them 'we're not the former tennant. Contact the landlord if you like, we just signed a new lease'. they didn't care. they gave us the runaround, and forced me to miss work and show-up to their offices during business hours to show several pieces of ID in person to 'prove I was me'.
I asked them whether this was standard protocol for new accounts to be opened, and they said 'no', and said it was only done in this case since there was an existing acct that was overdue.....
as if that was my fault.... as you can see, this rubbed me the wrong way.... it still irritates me 4 almost years later!

We had this problem with out water bill....800 for our first water bill in our old apartment, they even moved it to DHs credit! It took the 3 years we were there to get rid of it

No its a two family home and I called her to ask for the meter number and she was liek that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. My father said theys hould be able to pull it up by using the telephone number so we will try that next!
Sounds like a lot of fun to look forward to $800 water bill ?! Bastids!
