I researched a few DJ's prior to signing a contract. We picked the DJ that best fit our needs. He said he would play whatever we asked, just to provide him with specific music if we had something specific in mind. I'm of Dominican descent and grew up listening to various 'Spanish' music. My FH is straight up Rock and Roll. My question, how many songs selections are we supposed to provide our DJ ? All I want is for everyone to dance at my Wedding?!?
PS I have to add, I have more people than FH attending and they're all different, with different tastes in music.

Re: Concerned about Music at Reception
well if your worried ppl won't dance to rock there are plenty of danceable rock songs out there and I am sure your FH's guests won't mind some spanish music if thats what your concerned about.
This is really a question for the dj bc they are the professional...I am sure they can come up with plan to suit both your needs.

I am Dominican so I completely understand because music is very important to us! I am not in the same as boat as you because FHs family and mine listen to the same types of music. I will say however, that since music is soooo important to me, I am compiling a list of everything that I want to hear, so maybe you and your FH can come up with a list (mine is getting to be very long!). I am also leaving my DJ some room to be creative because I want people to have fun! Talk to your DJ and get suggestions.

Our DJ asked FH and I to each submit 15 of our favorite songs so he can get a feel as to the type of music we both like. He will then make a playlist of songs similar to those 30 we give him.
maybe you can do something like this so your DJ knows what you two want.

im in the same boat- i grew up listening to american music and FH is dominican. soo needless to say, we havent booked a DJ yet!
i say write out as many songs as you can before the wedding so they can make sure they have them on hand. explain to them the percentage of spanish to english music you want, and tell them to make sure they mix it well!
tell them that just playing suavement is not OK!! lol

Thanks guys! Really made my day to know I'm not the only one here with these issues. DJ wanted to play 'Boriqua Anthem' and I said, er sorry I'm Dominican. lol They seem pretty cool and accomodating. I have 10 months to figure it out.
