Right now we're booked at the Hyatt in Maui for our honeymoon.
I heard some great reviews but recently they have been not so great primarily cuz of all the kids there. FH and I will be there when all the kids in the states are back in school but I'm still worried. Also, i'm not looking for people to bend over backwards cuz we're on our honeymoon but I would like it to feel different then any other vacation.
Thoughts or experiences?

Re: Concerned about my honeymoon hotel
I love kids..but not on vacation. I hate kids in my hotel.
Is it even possible to switch hotels now? Honestly I's like a super romantic place on the most special vacation of m,y life.

HIGHLY recommend the four seasons in maui
so relaxing and amazing and they go WAY above and beyond (they upgraded my bro and SIL from a regular room with mountain views to a suite with ocean views)

That was my favorite hotel in Hawaii. It's really luxurious. There is also the four seasons in Maui, it's worth looking into if you are worried about kids, but I dont' think you should be. Especially since it isn't during a school break or anything. HTH

I'd have to ask my travel agent. As for the four season... yeah.. can't afford that lol.

Re: Concerned about my honeymoon hotel
Yea I noticed Sandra's review. We didn't have a problem with kids at all. The one thing I liked about the hotel is how there is a separate kid oriented pool with slides and bridges, so we never sat over there to purposely avoid the kids. Also, we walked down the beach to relax as well. We also found the service to be amazing, they upgraded us without us even mentioning it. We also got a big tote filled with all sorts of stuff. They valet parked our car for free. I mean they really went out of their way for us. All in all we had an amazing time and we would definitely stay there again.

Re: Concerned about my honeymoon hotel
the four seasons is VERY expensive - I looked there and it almost doubled the cost of my honeymoon - not sure if that's an issue for you.
I'm staying at the Westin - it's in the same area as the Hyatt, but I really wouldn't worry about a ton of kids b/c it's like mid-September, so everyone should be in school, you know?

Also to add, we were never really at the hotel, just breakfast and one day we relaxed. Otherwise we did snorkeling, hike through rainforest, surf lessons, etc.

Re: Concerned about my honeymoon hotel
My cousin went on his honeymoon in June and complained that the Maui Hyatt was like Disneyworld because of all the kids. I don't know how the timing affected that or if you'd be okay but I would steer clear based on what they told me.

Re: Concerned about my honeymoon hotel
DH and I were there for our HM in May and to be honest, although we really liked it, there were kids there. Not too many, but enough to take away the honeymoon feel.
Also, if you decide to stay, check the room thoroughly before unpacking. The first room we had upon check in (which was an upgrade), was infested with ants. They were by the vents, the bathroom, the door, on the wall above the bed. We realized it after 2 hours or so and DH freaked b/c two got into our luggage. We quickly switched to a new room in the Lahaina Tower, on the other side and were happy with it.
The beach isn't the biggest, but its nice enough. We stayed poolside mostly.
Also I have to mention, it you are not fond of birds, or if you fear them like some of my friends, don't eat at the restaurant Sons. It opens to the Swan Court and although beautiful, the other little birds fly throughout the place as pigeons do in the city. It can be off setting even though the restaurant is really great.
The Marriott next door has a ton more children than the Hyatt and is more family friendly, so I find they end up there more.

Re: Concerned about my honeymoon hotel
ok im goin to be completely honest cause Im a travel agent and I also have very close friends and family that went to Hawaii and stay at both Hyatts when they went.. My sis in law and bro said the grand hyatt in kauai was amazing!!!!! soo great that goin to the Hyatt Maui was just ok for them.. they were a little disappointed. I have a couple other friends that stayed at both hyatts and they said the same exact thing and it bothered them about the kids being there.. another friend stayed at The westin hotel and although she loved the location.. she would have preffered to stay at the grand wailea, fairmont, or the four seasons.. This is exactly what I did but the only reason I am stayn at four seasons is cause they have amazing travel agent rates and they are comping me a night cause we are on a crazy budget. I know that the fairmont might be equally the same price but its a little cheaper and you get a suite since its an all suite property.. def look into the Fairmont to see what it prices during September.. It really depends what your lookin for.. Is it more important to stay on budget? or is it more important to have a more romantic less kid hotel.. ALOT of it though really depends on what time of year your going.. FM me if you have any questions Im rambling again, lol!!!

Re: Concerned about my honeymoon hotel
'09er crashing. I've been to the Hyatt Regency in Maui twice. The first time we went was October - and yes there were kids there but they mostly stayed in the kiddie area and didn't bother us. When we went for the HM we were there over Thanksgiving. We actually flew from Kauai (The Grand Hyatt) to Maui the day before Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving week was crowded and full of kids even at the Grand Hyatt. By the time Sunday rolled around and everyone else left, it was completely different. Again, there were a few scattered kids but not too many.
We actually had an 'incident' at the adults only pool at the Grand Hyatt when we were staying there. There were a group of kids in the adults only pool and some other couple complained. The pool manager basically said it's hotel policy that even though it is marked 'adults only' they do not do anything if the guests ignore this 'rule.' To be honest, it wasn't a lot of kids and it didn't bother us.
Honestly, if you're not going during any school breaks, you should be fine.
The first time I went to Hawaii, we stayed at the 4 Seasons. It's a gorgeous resort but honestly, DH and I prefer to be closer to Lahaina than Wailea but that's just our personal preference.

Re: Concerned about my honeymoon hotel
We stayed at the Hyatt on the Big Island. Its completely a family resort. The hotel is gigantic. We really weren't bothered by the families. You also have to realize that on your honeymoon you will do things at different times then families. We where up & out of the hotel by 10am every morning to go sight seeing. By time we would get back & use the pool it would be late afternoon, when most families are napping. I was extremely worried about this but it really didn't interfere with us at all.

Re: Concerned about my honeymoon hotel
We stayed at the Sheraton in Maui and it was AH-MAZING. Seriously, we were in building number 4, on the 6th floor, with a view overlooking the pools, kaanapali beach and black rock.
The breakfast buffet incl. with our room was the best we've ever had, the beach was amazing with great snorkeling right by black rock. There were some kids, but primarily couples or older teenagers. And it was a 5 minute walk to whaler's village.
We were able to book a special through expedia, third night was free and incl. the breakfast buffet. I would highly recommend it!

The grounds of the Four Seasons were really nice, but we didn't love the location. Wailea was a decent drive from Lahaina, much less Kaanapali. It didn't look like there was much to do in that area, but since we didn't stay down there perhaps I am wrong. I personally would recommend the Kaanapali area for a hotel.
And I'd also definitely recommend renting a car and buying Maui Revealed, that book MADE our honeymoon!
