Conducting Business During Your Wedding???

Conducting Business During Your Wedding???

Hi everyone!

A question - is it normal practice for a reception hall (that has one wedding at a time) to conduct additional business while a wedding is going on?

I went to my tasting last night (was kept waiting for an hour, but that's another story), while a wedding was actually going on! There was another engaged couple and their parents there as well (for something other than a tasting). I felt like we were crashing this poor girl's wedding! Is this normal? I don't want anyone at my hall except me and my guests! Can I request this?

Thanks!

when I went to a tasting, there was a wedding going on. They let us peek in but we weren't allowed (an didn't want to!) go in. It was nice to see a wedding going on though, gave us a picture. Did you guys walk into the reception or anything?

It depends on the hall.

When I was calling some halls they refused to let me come in while another event was going on.

When we went to HTH the first time to check it out, there was reception going on. We sneaked off the elevator and took a peak at the room all set up. It gave us an idea of what it would look like....It was really pretty. The next time we went....the room was empty but they were setting up for a reception...It is a beautiful room.(The grand ballroom)

We didn't go into the reception, cocktail, or ceremony area, but the office is right next to the main entry hall where they were taking pictures of the bridal party, etc. Because there was another family in the office when we got there, we chose to wait outside, but a ton of guests passed us on their way in. I felt so guilty and so out of place for being there!

don't worry about it. as a bride to be, don't you want to see the place set up as it would be? i would. when we went for tasting, they had a wedding going on. they do that on purpose, so you can taste the food that they actually serve. but we sat in the attached bar that is open to the golfers. we looked through the doors into the reception hall but didn't go in.

as for my wedding, if they had people checking it out, i certainly didn't notice, and i would not have minded if they did. i would want someone to see how we set it up and what our ideas were - maybe it would give them some ideas!

I felt like that when I went to vist the Watermill. We went on a friday night and there was two weddings going on. I felt so out of place. Were we are getting married at dose not allow anyone on the premisis to look while another event is going on.

When I went to my hall's tasting, there was a wedding going on.. I felt awful and stayed out of their way..

We were dressed up, so we blended in, but still.

Artie (banquet manager) blocked our whole day out for our wedding and made sure that there were no appts. that day.. make sure you mention this to your hall.

Most of the palces I went to wouldn't let us come during party hours. I thought that was great...I wouldn't want people coming in and gawking at us.

Can it be that it was on a off day (Thurs.) and that's why they let you go in??

I would mention it to the palce that you wouldn't want that to happen the day of your party.

You never know, some of the people we see wandering at the reception sites may be plain rude and not have an apointment. When we call, the managers have a chance to tell us not to come due to affairs but if we dont call, then we are crashing in. I do not want crashers at my wedding and im gonna mention it.

Thanks for the advice, ladies!

When I chose my tasting date, I was offered Friday and Saturday choices as well, so I don't think it was just a Thursday thing.

I think I'm going to ask my hall if it's possible for them not to book any appointments during my wedding. (I'm going to be nervous enough as it is without strangers staring at me!)

Thanks again!

My hall won't allow us to have a tasting unless an affair is going on. It's a waste of food for them to have to cook for 2 or 4 people what they would normally cook for 100+ people. I don't mind if people are in the building conducting business while my wedding is going on, as long as they don't traipse anyone through my room or interfere in any way, which I don't think they will do.

ETA: They said that they would usher us to one of the side rooms where they meet with clients and bring the food to us, so that no one would ever have to know we were there. It wasn't like we could walk into the party and eat the food!

Re: Conducting Business During Your Wedding???

We looked at two places while weddings were going on. We only took a peek, I was told at one place 'it's ok, you can step in' and I was like 'absolutely not!'. On one hand it was nice to see everything set-up but you really couldn't see everything and take your time for obvious reasons. We did not book either one of those places, our tasting will be during a wedding but up in the baquet office in an area where they have a big dining room table set-up, there's a separate entrance and everything so we don't interfere.

I certainly don't want people touring the place during my wedding. I'm going to make a point to ask next time I go.
