I don't think our hall did it that way. We gave a full tip to the MD and we were under the impression that the 'service charge' covers the valet, kitchen, wait staff, etc.

it was me...i posted that the MD tips get split...and that is what our BM told us last night! i didnt think to ask about the 20% gratuity though but that is an excellent point.

Yea, I'm not questioning your post, I'm just curious what the 20% covers if we still have to tip all these people lol

Same...MD and BA are tipped separately, and everyone else falls within that 20% gratuity or service charge

FH worked in the catering business when he was much younger & unfortunately he was telling me that the wait staff gets nothing at the end of the night. They usually only get their salary & no part of the tips-because of this reason FH wants to make sure we give indiviual tips directly to the waiters/waiteress. Honestly we have no idea who gets the service charge amount-the RH probably keeps it lol
