confused about FOCCUS and marriage prep
Re: confused about FOCCUS and marriage prep
I am confused too! I know you have to do precana but what is the FOCCUS, do you have to do that too?
Re: confused about FOCCUS and marriage prep
FH and I actually got back from FOCCUS a few minutes ago. It's basically just a survey asking questions about your beliefs and relationship. There were about 160 questions. We took the 'test' and now we have to go back in a few weeks to discuss our answers. You should call your church and see if you can complete it there. I think even if you do the first part online, you still have to have a meeting in person but I could be wrong.
Re: confused about FOCCUS and marriage prep
Please tell me you only have to do this if your getting married in a church....catholic right?
Re: confused about FOCCUS and marriage prep
Yes, you only have to do the FOCCUS if you are getting married in a church. When you register through the diocese you have to select a church and the dates that you will attend pre-cana. We are doing this and we had to select a church (in which the precana meeting is held). This is not likely your church, but it could be. My church wasn't holding precana on the dates that I am available so I had to select a different church.
Re: confused about FOCCUS and marriage prep
Do all Churches make you do FOCCUS? I don't remember mine bringing it up
Re: confused about FOCCUS and marriage prep
I'm surpised that the church that's marrying you isn't having you discuss the results with them
Re: confused about FOCCUS and marriage prep
After you take the test you only have to go to the other church for about an hour where they discuss what the propose of FOCCUS and pre cana are about, this is not your pre cana you will complete your pre cana at your church
Re: confused about FOCCUS and marriage prep
At precana, they are supposed to review your results of the questionnaire with you and FH.
Re: confused about FOCCUS and marriage prep
i actually just came back from finishing up our pre-cana a few hours ago. we completed the foccus online a few months back and they went over the results of the foccus with us this morning at pre-cana. some of the other couples were able to come a little later in the morning (we had to be there at 9, they were allowed to come around 10:30) because they had already gone over the results with their own churches (i think that's where they did it). FOCCUS did take a little bit of time to complete, which was annoying, but you can always log out and back in to finish it. Some of the questions were repetitive and i honestly don't feel i got anything out of it. Our priest wasn't even requiring that we did it, just the pre-cana, but once we signed up for pre-cana through the diocese, it was a requirement. But to anyone out there trying to decide when or where to do the pre-cana, if you're doing it through the RVC diocese, i would definitely recommend the Uniondale location at Kellenberg. It was one wknd (sat & sun), 9 - 4, and we even managed to get out an hour early each day. they feed you too, which is a nice, but at $300, you kind of hope they do feed you. Good luck all...and it's really not that bad :)
Re: confused about FOCCUS and marriage prep
Is it possible I dont have to do Foccus? We are going to Pre cana in October, and noone even mentioned Foccus to us. Its nowhere in our paperwork either.

Re: confused about FOCCUS and marriage prep
I did Pre-cana in June and have no clue what FOCCUS is. Our priest never mentioned anything to us about FOCCUS, or I just wasn't paying any attention. I'm gonna call to find out.
Re: confused about FOCCUS and marriage prep
Not all churchs require Foccus so if your church does not require it you dont have to go out of your way to do it.
