Confused about role of day of coordinator

If someone is very resourceful and can show you lots of invitations, favors, etc...does that mean they are a wedding coordinator?

In general, are there any qualification a person should have that would make them more than resourceful but a 'coordinator'.

Randella had told me that some people who originally were into invitations are now calling themselve wedding coordinators.

I'm just confused - when you sit down with someone what should they be telling you about what they'll do for you the day of?

I think there is a difference between the wedding coordinator and the 'day of coordinator'

The day of - is a person that makes sure all goes smooth on the wedding date. Vendors show up, setup is how you like and all that..

The wedding coordinator is the one that helps you plan your wedding; with ideas, themes, and whatever else you need - they are wedding planners.

Who are you interested in?

Day of coordinator -- the person in this role helps you through your big day. The DOC does things like makes sure you're running on schedule, pays vendors and handles any problems that come up so you, your mom or your BP doesn't have to. Expect to meet w/ this person at least once before your day so he/she knows what you want and expect from them and your day.

Wedding planner -- the person in this role may also help you through the big day, but also helps you plan the wedding by helping you find and book vendors and all the items you'll need (invitations, table settings, BM dresses, etc.). Think of the wedding planners you see on Bridezillas for an idea of what these people do.

JMHO, if you want day of services only, make it very clear with any candidates you meet that that's what you're looking for. Also, be sure to ask specific questions and check references of brides that they've performed DOC services for.

Peacock- I mentioned that to you because you seemed confused about the person you were talking to- I just had one coordinator that I met with tell me that as a warning that some may not be what they appear to be- some people may not have the experience to cooridinate details and vendors, etc.-- I was passing along that info.. I think if you find someone that can help you with YOUR needs- then that is the right fit.
