Confused about the size of the room I need...

Confused about the size of the room I need...

When FH and I originally booked Leonard's we only had about 90 people on our guest list and therefore got the Empire Room, which has a maximum capacity of 130 persons.
Now, thanks mostly to my mother who thinks receptions are mostly for the guests, our guest list grew to about 175. Personaly I don't want to choose between friends and family and divide people into A and B lists; I want to just invite everyone.
So we're going to the tasting in two weeks, and I thought that at that time, if a bigger room is still available, we should book it. But my mom says that we should say with the smaller room because not everyone will come.
I know that not everyone on the guest list will be able to attend, but I'm not sure if I want to take the risk of more guests comming than the room can hold.
Please help me, I'm very confused. Should I stick with my 130 capacity room or should I try to get a bigger one?

That's a tough one bc it's a 55 person difference. Which is about 27 invitations. From what I have read on the boards that's about the # of invites that get a no response. I'm thinking you should stick with your origional room.

To not book the larger room is a serious roll of the dice. In any event, when the RH says they have a ____ capacity for the room, that means totally full. So if you have 130 people in that room, it's going to be tight. If you sent out STDs, you absolutely should look into that bigger room. Even so, they say you get 20% Nos on invites, so if you invite 175 people, that's 36 nos, so your still pushing it.

Ula... Listen...I had the Continental Room ..THe minimum and maximum of that room is 120-160.....i had about 130 people.....that was ok..if i had more people there would be no room to dance.....now if you have a room that is for 120 max ...i would deff. talk to someone about changing the room...i mean i know not everybody invited will come... my guest list was 160 and only 130 came.....

i was in a similar situation -- I went with the bigger room and I'll tell you why:

Yes, guests won't come. But you have no guarentee that of 175 people, a minimum of 45 will rsvp 'no.' So you risk going over...and then being stuck in a room that's too small. Chances are, even if you get down to the maximum, it will probably be near it considering the number of people invited and you don't want to be cramped.

But on the other hand, if you take the bigger room, I'll bet you that MORE people will make their way onto the guest list. Again...that's what happened to me and personally, I'm not crazy about walking into a reception and not knowing a lot of the guests. And those guests that I won't know come from FH's parents. FH doesn't know them either...could be awkward. 'hi, how are you? nice to meet you. thanks for coming. thanks for the gift.'

Here's my result though: I took the bigger room that had a minimum of 150 (when that happened, our guest list went up to 230). The smaller room maxed out at 170. The end result is that I'm going to end up with about 170 people.

I say go with the bigger room - you never know how many people will say no and I've been to a couple of weddings that were crammed with people and it sucked. If you really know that a lot of people will not come then that's a different story...JMO

I think if this room is available still you should book it.

I would get the bigger room because the continental room isn't that big so if you were to switch to it and a lot of people didn't show up its not going to look empty. If you stay in the empire room (i'm in that room) and you're over capacity people aren't going to be that comfortable. TO me they both looked the same. They dont' book 2 weddings on the same floor so you should be ok switching unless someone is having a sweet 16 or something.

Me personaly, I would go with the bigger room-even if you get 130 or 120-it may still be cramped.

I agree, they tell you what a room can hold but ask if you can see it set up for the maximum. I would go with the bigger room.

I would try to get the bigger room if it is still available. It's better to be safe than sorry! Good luck.

you should definalty take the bigger room... you should never count that certain people will not come, especially when booking sizes of rooms. the last thing that you would want is not to have enough room in the ballroom for your guests to enjoy themselves. if you crame people into a space that is all they are going to remeber.. but you should check to see what the minimum is for the larger room. you really need to sit down and finalize your invite list, but dont wait too long cause you might not have the option of a larger room.. and then your really up a creek.. good luck

i would get the bigger room - there are some halls (ive never been to yours though so i dont know) that tell you a maximum but if you put that many people in there it is a TIGHT squeeze and you want people to be comfortable!

its kind of like those 15 person limos - but when you get in them you realize its like 15 people under 12 ONLY can fit
