confused about veil

I can't decide if I should wear my veil at the reception also. Right now I am planning to wear a cathedral at the church and then a blusher attachment. do I need to havean elbow as well? I didn't think I wanted to wear it during the reception, but a friend of mine says it will 'complete the look'

Help!

Re: confused about veil

I think you can do as many layers as you want. I am also doing a cathedral veil for the ceremony with an elbow-ish length blusher, then I am taking off the cathedral veil and leaving the blusher on in the back for the rest of the night, or for as long as I can stand keeping it on.

Re: confused about veil

I agree with October. You can do anything you want. I am thinking about doing the blusher/ shoulder lenghth / catherdral lenght as well.... but like you I can't decide whether or not to wear my veil the whole time! It's a once in a lifetime thing....but at the same time, no one can see your pretty hairstyle if you are wearing a veil all night.....ahhh decisions decisions

Re: confused about veil

Honestly you can do whatever you want. Today, it is very common for the bride to remove her veil after the ceremony and it looks great.

I am getting a detachable cathedral and leaving my fingertip on all night. With my dress it does complete the look. But my dress isn't poofy or very tradtional. I also figure that it is the only time I get to wear one...the only thing is no one will see my pretty hairstyle I want!

Re: confused about veil

I was one of the brides who said I was taking my veil off at the reception. Well the day of the wedding I changed my mind and wore it all night for a few reasons:

1. I was afraid that if I pulled it off my hair would get all messy

2. I loved the way it looked on

3. You only get to be a bride once

4. It really does complete the look

Re: confused about veil

I was really happy to take my veil off! I had a cathedral - no blusher and no other layers/length.

It was very simple - I tried it with other lengths and my dress looked better without. Plus the back of my dress was so pretty, I wanted it seen throughout the night.

Re: confused about veil

I wore mine until all the formal pix were over. The back of my dress was beautiful, I also kept getting annoyed when it kept slipping when people hugged me. So once the pix were all done, it was so long goodbye veil You can decide now, but come the day of, it might get so annoying you might just take it off. You never really know until you are in the situation.

Re: confused about veil

I agree. I guess I feel b/c i have 3 hrs btwn church and reception, I will have all my pics done by the time I get to the cocktail hour. I have long curly hair and plan on having it all done up, and I love the back of my dress, so I guess I feel I will have 4 hrs in my veil before the reception even starts.

I appreciate everyones opinion, I think it is all personal preference.
Good Luck!

Re: confused about veil

Thank you!!

My dress is a Jim Hjelm Couture - from the fall 2001 season. Style #JH3517

http://jimhjelmcouture.com/fall2001/3517.html

I found it only in a salon that happened to be doing a Jim Hjelm trunk show - I never found it anywhere else.

Re: confused about veil

CarrieAnn - thank you! my veil was one layer of ivory tulle with satin ribbon edging attached to a comb. My MIL made it (for her daughter and lent it to me) so I don't know the exact details...

There was a blusher as well, but I preferred just the cathedral.

Re: confused about veil

I am wearing a cathedral veil for the ceremony formal pics.
For the reception, the veil comes off, and is replaced w/arm bands that have it's own sheer shawl cascading across the back, very pretty, completes the look, yet stays out of the way.

Re: confused about veil

I'm planning on getting a 2 tier elbow length veil. I'm planning to wear it all night, unless it gets bothersome. I'm only wearing the veil in the back (no blusher).
