Re: confused.. looking for advice
well you can definitely try to talk to her again to seek help if you want. But one thing you can do is talk to your maitre'd and tell him to let the bartender know to water down all her drinks and water them down ALOT! this way you dont have to worry about her getting too drunk at your wedding.
So sorry, must be such a difficult situation. Maybe you and your family members can try to seek help for her

Then I suggest letting your RH know to really water down all her drinks. Maybe even cutting her off after a certain amount and just telling her its their policy to not allow guests to go past x amount of drinks bc of previous problems they had in the past.

I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this. When is your wedding date? Is there enough time to try and talk to her into getting help. This may even be near to impossible because the first few years for a recovering alcoholic are very difficult when they are in a place where alcohol is being served. In the same instance- never say never.
If I were you- I would get my family together and sit down and talk to the people who care for her the most and seek their guidance and help in handling this unfortunate situation.
I wish I had better advice but, I feel like this is something you sadly have to face and it will get resolved.
My mother always tells me- this too shall pass ans this too shall get resolved because there has never been a problem in this world that doesn't get resolved one way or the other.

My sister had to do this with one of her husband's uncles a couple of years ago, and the RH gladly obliged.

This is what I was going to say also. I would try and steer her away from the bar, and let her know how important it is for her to be there for you, but the alcohol will make it tough for you to have her there. You have some time before your wedding.. I would try and arrange a face to face.. i know it is hard becuase she lives far away, but let her know how much it would mean if she was sober and clear minded to you.
Good Luck

Every recovering alcoholic has that tipping point, the event that made them recognize a problem. Maybe have a hard conversation with your mom (when she is sober) that you believe you will not be inviting her to your wedding because of this problem. Even if you've tried your whole life...but if this is your first marriage then nothing quite like this has ever been said to her before. If that does work then get her into AA immediately. If she just gets pissed...the worst that might happen is that she won't come...which is something you are considering anyway.

Re: confused.. looking for advice
This was my problem with my Mother in law. She is a huge drunk and for the past 10 years I have known her I have seen her sober maybe three times and two were b/c of my rehearsal dinner and my wedding. I was so scared she was going to be a hot mess b/c she always is and always ruins everything. B/c it was my wedding and her sons we talked to her and she was really good. She drank just not as much as she would of if we did not say anything. Also, we made sure people kept an extra eye on her b/c if she was the Pam she always is I would never let her forget it and prob would of cut her out of our lives forever. Tell her that (this is what we told her) that if you can not stay sober one night then I understand drinking means more to you then our happiness and we then can not have you there. See what she says. Good luck!

Watering down her drinks is one option, but trying to cut her off at any point may only enrage her. You don't want to do that and have her make a scene and ruin the wedding. This hard for me to say as a mother myself, but you may be better off not having her there. Maybe you can have a small dinner with her afterwards to celebrate. I will say a prayer for you because I know this is not easy for you but you deserve a wedding day you can remember with a smile and not with embarrassment.

I am so sorry.....its so sad. All I can say is try and talk to her again. What does she say about her problem? does she admit she has a problem?

Re: confused.. looking for advice
OK.... 1st of all I'm sorry you are going through this. I can say that I know exactly how you feel. My father was a very bad alcoholic and I saying was because he died three months ago in November due to his abuse. I too didn't know how to deal with it at my wedding, I sat up countless nights crying about this(and its not just b/c of my wedding) but I believe God made the choice for me.
When I was in your situation I was thinking of things I could do to limit the amount of alcohol he would drink....its soo hard. At one point I was even thinking of hiring a nurse to look after him at the wedding, just in case he got out of control, which would 100% happen. Its sad.... Its not just about the wedding but its about dealing with this your whole life, its not fair to you or anyone in your family. I do, after all I've been through with my Father, now believe that it is a disease.
Even though I was in the same situation as you... I cant tell you what to do, only you will be able to do that. But I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone and if you ever need to talk more or a shoulder to cry on just FM me.

I agree with this completely. and I also think you should talk to the RH..let all the bars know who she is & to water down her drinks. Also the thing about cutting her off but having them tell HER it's just a generic rule...also let ur matre d know that if she gets out of hand with the bar tender to please escort her out. We had a rowdy table at ours and told the M'D that if they got out of hand to please ask them to leave...they had no problem with it & actually said it's rare if a couple DOESN'T ask them this. i know it's a lot of effort to put in just to have her there, but it will do the job. And who knows, maybe she won't even come. i wish u all the best & hope the situation works out for the better
