Confused on the tipping for the hall-help please

Yesterday we brought all our stuff to the hall and as we went over the final bill the bridal attendent said 18% gratuity for the maitre'D . as we left we were thinking that that can't be right. it was 18% included in the contract for the workers, but I always see about $3 pp for the maitre'd. the maitre'd is also the banquet manager. Now i don't know what to give. 18% comes to almost $2k, that can't be right. I think she may have goofed, I'm going to inquire about it tomorrow, but thought i'd get some input from you ladies. $3 pp comes to about $500, because he is also the BM we thought maybe an extra $100-150. I don't have another grand to shell out. I think almost $700 is more than enough for a tip.
