I have been to different sites and some say that computer calligraphy is ok if the wedding is not super formal while others say it is not ok?
What have you heard?

Me too. We're going to use our computer and address our own invitations.

Re: Confusing?
I did them myself on the computer....our wedding is not black tie...but I think they looked very professional and it's more accepted nowadays.

Re: Confusing?
There are so many situations that are 'etiquette' and you should really go by. This is not one of them IMO. I don't think the envelope is going to make or break the formality of a wedding, as long as it looks elegant. The invitation that is inside the envelope really represents the formality of the occassion. Again, JMO!!!

Re: Confusing?
I agree w/ Brianne- who cares what the outside envelope looks like ?? - well, not 'who cares' - but I don't think it makes a difference if your calligraphy is hand written or done on the computer as long as it looks neat and professional - I planned on doing mine that way -

Re: Confusing?
I agree if its cost effective for you, is anyone at your wedding going to be an invitation expert, NOT, people will read the invitation and toss it really.....I was thinking of doing self invites but I don't have the patience and by the time I purchase all those ink cartridges it will be just about the same pricce for a prof printed invite

Re: Confusing?
My wedding is black tie optional, and we are making our own invites off the computer. I have never noticed when someone's invite was not engraved until after I got engaged. I don't think it takes away from anything. Besides, think about where it goes after the wedding- how many guests save the invites or even judge the wedding by the invites?
Do what you want, regardless of the formality of the affair.

Re: Confusing?
Just to give you an idea of how much things are changing...my wedding is black tie optional as well and I went with your classic formal invitation. I did not get tissue paper with my invites and I was told most invitation companies are not even including the tissue paper anymore. It bothered me at first b/c etiquette dictates tissue paper and it was what I'm used to. But I decided not to get the tissue paper. Things will mean and look different to different people. I think you should go with what makes you happy. As the other brides said remember that the envelopes do get thrown away. On a side note, I saw samples of hand calligraphy and computer calligraphy from the woman I am using for my envelopes. I am going to use computer calligraphy because I personally liked how they came out with the computer better than by hand...
