i'll admit, my parents were against me marrying boosh, not because they didn't like her, they thought i was too young, though i was 27 when i got married
my mom was 37, my dad 34

My Mom tired to talk me out of marrying my DH. But now she likes him b/c she is stuck with him.

to my knowledge, none of DH's friends/family tried to talk him OUT of marrying me ..
BUT I will admit that ONE of my (now former) friends told me I was CRAZY when we got so serious so soon, then engaged .. and that I was rushing into things... She was a bitter, jealous person and I had to cut off that so-called friendship because she was so awful to me
Of course, I always knew better

One of FH's friends thinks he's making a big mistake by marrying me. It's an awful thing to hear, let me tell you. Especially when I found out that his reasoning was that I'm a Republican.

My sister wanted to talk me out of marrying FH, but she has since gotten over herself at the cost of no longer being my MOH.
If one of FH's friends/family members has tried to dissuade him, he has not told me.

Well I had my grandmother tell me straight to my face that DH wasn't the one for me.
And... his family being old school Spanish, I think his grandparents didn't show up to the wedding because I'm not a good 'puerto rican girl'.. I've heard rumors but can't confirm that this is true but it wouldn't surprise me... But I make some good arroz con gandules.. and he's not complaining!.. LOL

Truthfully, I have no idea. It was one of the worst feelings in the world to find out that someone had actually said that but then the reasoning...

at least it's such a ridiculous reason that you really can't worry about it that much! but it's still hurtful to hear....
people i used to work with tried to talk me out of dating tom because they said he wasn't good enough for me....it was awful having to hear them say terrible things about him everyday! it was all because they knew his father (he worked in the office also) and didn't like him.
needless to say, they weren't invited to the wedding becuase of their cruel comments

Unfortunatley I can't do that since this guy's in the BP.
People just don't think before they speak, I think. It's the only thing I can possibly think of to justify the horrible things that come out of some people's mouths. I can't believe your coworkers would judge someone based on liking or not liking their father. That's just utterly immature.

Re: Conspiracy theorists everywhere -- do you know/think someone tried to persuade your SO not into marrying you?
His entire family did their best before and after the wedding to split things up. From hiding his money he saved for my ring, to telling me flat out that I was 'wasting' my time thinking he'd marry me.
His brother and Mother were the absolute worst and hit below the belt one too many times. During an argument with his brother over the fact that I wouldn't attend wife #2's bridal shower (hey, I gave you 3 gifts for wife #1's engagement party, bridal shower and wedding less than 16 months ago!), he told me that I meant nothing to Bob and that I would never be family. Yeah well, with a creep like you in it, why would I want to be in your family??? Another time we were having an episode about said wife (she's just a biotch and likes to start trouble) he said to Bob 'And you're still going to marry HER knowing she doesn't like Jenn?!?' as if liking his wife was the qualifier to marry his brother!?! Get over yourself dude!!
Hah-hah stooopid. Married 4.5 years. In your face!!!!

DH has one friend who has a really hard time growing up even though he is now 27. He and DH have been friends since htey were 4 so when we started dating he was really jealous and rather mean to me! Then we grew to be really good friends (only took about 2.5 years!) then when we got engaged, he was floored and totally against the weddign thing. I dont know that he actively tried to talk DH out of it but he wasnt exactly planning an engagment party for us. Even though he will tell me that he is completely happy for us and if DH has to get married hes really glad its to me! But now he is alittle weird towards us especially if DH cant do something with him on a moments notice, he cant seem to understand that its not necessarily that he's married thats causing him to not be 100% accessible but rather its that DH has a life beyond his best friend!
Some people!!!

Spinoff to: Conspiracy theorists everywhere -- do you know/think someone tried to persuade your SO not into marrying you?
On another note...do you have any friends or know someone who is pushing their boyfriend or girlfriend to propose? A girl I know...it is getting out of control. She is already planning a wedding that is still non-existant. It is sad because every single weekend she thinks he is going to propose and it has been 7 months!
One of FH's friends has NO intentions of proposing to his live-in GF and she has every intention of marrying him. She's a great nice girl and does everything for him, but she just doesn't do that thing to his heart. It's so sad. He is wasting her time!

EVERY DAY! FH's parents have continued to try and get him to call it off...it started with the bribe (move back to vermont without beth and we will send you to grad school for a major that when you wanted to persue it undergrad we said we wouldnt pay for college) to many more thngs...most recently....well since you arent rehearsing, we dont think that we want to throw a rehearsal dinner anymore...
