Construction HAS BEGUN!!

So, Fh's uncle is a plumber and he came over on Saturday to plan what we are doing to my attic apt - we are adding a shower and a kitchen area, there was already a half bathroom.

He was AMAAING - seriously he should be an architect or something. We thought we wouldnt be able to fit ANYTHING up there but instead we can have a pretty big shower in the bathroom - the best part is the kitchen though - it is a little corner kitchen - the sink is on an angle in the corner, on one side is the stove and on the other side is some counter space - next to that we have a pretty big pantry. We were so excited bc with our stinky plan we would practically have to get a hot plate and a dorm fridge! but with HIS plan he is keeping a huge window in the bathroom so it will be nice and airy AND we can get a 24 inch stove which is just a little smaller than normal - AND we can get a regular apartment size fridge!

so FH and I went to Sears and PC Richards but they dont have that big of a selection of electric stoves so we will have to order that when the time comes.

BUT last night FH went up there and about an hour later I went up to check on him and the entire bathroom was torn out and everything is prepped for his uncle to do the plumbing

I got pretty emotional bc this was my grandmother's apartment and she passed away last year - i think i made him feel bad bc i burst into tears when he showed me how many saint's cards he had to take down. . . i am super excited but its just hard i feel like i am kicking her out or something PLUS idk what i am supposed to do with over 40 pictures of Padre Pio!

i am such a nerd i am going to scan a copy of the floor plan into the comp so i can play around with it - maybe i will post it on here later

wow i forgot the original intention of this post! where can i get some ideas for painting and decorating - i am working with pretty limited space but i have no idea where to begin, we are going to home depot to pick out colors this week.

YAY Tilde!!!!!!!!! Aww, and grandma would be so happy for you. Don't be sad. I bet she's smiling down on you.

As for decorating ideas....have you checked out home and garden's website or martha stewart or even TLC? They have a bunch of decorating shows. I'd start there and see what you can find!

I highly recommend getting those tiny jars of wall paint so you can try it out on your wall before you buy gallons of paint. I'd try and keep your colors light. Dark colors will make your apt. look smaller than it is!

Also, check out the magazines at the checkout line at your supermarket. They have tons of decorating magazines worth checking out for themes or style ideas!

Dont feel sad. I'm sure she is happy that you are able to do something with it. It is like a wedding gift from her to you. It must be really exctiting though. Very happy for you!

Matilde! That's sooo exciting!!! Sounds like you're going to have a very cute and cozy apartment and your grandmother would be soo sooo happy!
There's a website out there that allows you to do mock floor plans. You put in the size of the room that you're trying to put furniture in and then they give you options like couches, chairs, beds, tvs and you can sort of see what it would all look like in your room. I'm trying to find it for you, so when I do, I'll let you know.

That's so exciting! How wonderful that you have someone who can do that for you.
I'm sorry about your grandmother but I'm sure she is happy that you will be living in her old apt.

Check out Best Buy for appliances too - my brother got a great deal on his for his co-op!!!

On TLC or HGTV there is a show about small spaces, big ideas or something like that.

I recommend going with Benjamin Moore paints though. You can find them at True Value, Orange Front, Aboff's... Home Depot doesn't carry BM. In my exp, I find that Ben Moore is better.....

nope - i dont believe in that ( for me and FH only of course)

so our first night will be jan 13 -my wedding night i am staying at the garden city hotel bc of course the big joke is you cant spend your wedding night in your parents' house lol

That sounds so exciting Tilde!!! I'm sure your grandma is very happy for you. Plus you know she'll be watching over you guys and bless your marriage.

As for the decorating ideas...go to Home Depot and check out some of their paint sample combos. You can either do one of 2 things- go with light colors to make it look bigger, or go with bold colors or patterns to make it stand out. Honestly, you should start watching trading spaces and home improvement shows. It'll really give you some great ideas. Good luck and TAKE PICTURES!!!
