Re: contract
I believe most of the contracts say that the deposit is nonrefundable. I believe there is a law in Suffolk County if they are able to book the place for your date that they have to return your deposit minus the $100 but that only applies if it is in Nassau.

Re: contract
I don't have any direct experience with canceling a hall, but from what I've read on the boards in the past... most halls won't want to give you your deposit back. In Suffolk County, there's a law that says that you can get back all but $100 or $500 (read here: link) if you cancel at least 6 months in advance, but people have found that they've had to really stay on top of the halls to get there. As far as I know, there's no similar law for Nassau.
Maybe they'll be nice since you're changing your mind so quickly. Good luck!

Re: contract
My friend was able to get her deposit back. In suffolk, if the venue can rebook an affair similar to your wedding on the date, then you only lose $100 and maybe your deposit (it depends on how the contract reads). She canceled the venue within 24hrs of booking it. I would suggest calling and emailing the place ASAP so they have it in writing. Hope this helps!

Re: contract
i never heard of anyone having luck getting a deposit back...good luck...
but, if you really don't love it, it's a small price to pay for making your wedding day great..

Re: contract
(crashing)
When I booked my hall, i was told that i had a few days to cancel and receive my deposit back ... so if you just signed the contract yesterday, there's still luck.
Also, if your hall is in Suffolk, i believe you get a full deposit back within 6 months of your wedding date (don't quote me on that - it's just what i've heard)
either way - good luck

Re: contract
I do believe there is a law with contracts tha tyou have 3 days to change your mind in NY. I would suggest giving them a call and ask, but just play like you have not booked there yet. In the end if you don't love it, just suck it up to a lesson learned and get what you really want! Good luck
