The administrative fee gave me heart palpitations. I assumed it was a service charge for the venue, but still, holy cow, what a difference between what you think it costs and what it costs after tax and the administrative fee.

You need to check on that because I was told at Floral Terrace when they told me they only charged tax that charging a service fee is illegal but no one thinks to ask or second guess most venues so they get away with charging it. The price we were quoted without tax is only 4 dollars less a person than it is with taxes. That was way different than anywhere else we got quotes - it was a difference of at least $10 more plate everywhere else. I would definitely check it out.

Mediterranean manor told be that too, but I didn't believe them. I signed my contract with the fee and didn't think to look into it! damn!

You should still check into it. If it's illegal, signed contract or not they still shouldn't be charging it and I'm sure they don't want any legal trouble.

I just looked it up, a ny state tax page came up and said some time catering halls charge a service fee for parties over 8 people this charge is subject to tax. so I think it is legal....

basically a whole bunch of BS is what it covers
It doesn't include tips. Any place i went to that didn't have an administrative fee, it was already 'incorporated' into the the price. Either way they will screw you. lol
