Cooking Classes

Can anyone recommend a place for good cooking classes?
I want to enhance our cooking skills.

Institute of Culinary Education (I.C.E.) on 23rd Street (off Bdwy) has a great recreational division. I enjoy their classes.

I took 2 classes at A La Carte in Lynbrook. You really don't learn much. It is more like they give out recipes and you cook them in a group. I wouldn't go there again if I wanted to truly learn how to cook. JMO

Also, I signed up for 2 classes at once. Just to let you know, there is no cancellation policy.

I took the Italian Steakhouse class but next time I would take a 'method' class instead. Because I already know how to cook pretty well but the method would help. I.E. Knife Skills, Stocks & Sauces, etc ...

You can get a gift certificate and your FH can pick the class he wants to go to. They have a 'Cooking for Newlyweds' class coming up soon.

great info - FH knows how to cook as well but is always interested in learning new things. i think a 'method' class would do him some good also. the one thing i always 'complain' about is his timing, the final product is fantastic but his timing is always off...

i'm not 'allowed' in the kitchen

the 'Cooking for Newlyweds' sounds like a great idea, i'll look into it. any specific teacher you like?

No specific teachers, I only went once so far. They have a teacher and assistants to help out. And everyone is very helpful ..
They do teach you 'method' in the cooking classes and how to time things but not as much detail as the 'method classes' There is a 2-day class coming up that teaches you to 'chop garlic in 30 seconds', 'Mince herbs', 'time your meal', etc etc which I really want to take but it's during the week I think and it's $200 ...
