COOKING EXPERTS ... ITS ME AGAIN ... with a question ...........

Okay so I told you that I received the 10 pc stainless non stick caphalon pots and pans for Christmas ...

I was just on the website and found THIS ALL CLAD STAINLESS STEEL AND NON STICK SET ....

My aunt said I can return mine and gave me the receipt - the problem is this set is almost $300 MORE than the other set ... is it worth forking over the extra $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$?????

HELP!! I need advice, again!

THANK YOU!!

Nothings wrong its just I was leaning toward non stick but i love the way the stainless looks ... so i figured I would get the best of both worlds if I went with the STAINLESS NON STICK ALL CLAD SET ... hmmm

Oh I get it...if its really just for looks I say stick with what you've got...or you can wait and see if you get any CG for showers or anything else and then use that to help you upgrade so its not all coming out of your pocket...

I'm such a foodie! lol Here is my opinion..

18/10 stainless steel is the best in regards to pots & pans that is the quality some top chef's use. Now any real foodie would know, you do not use non-stick, non-stick is great to have as a skillet for omelets and other such foods you don't want to stick, but you should get regular steel for everyday cooking food taste much better but that's my opinion and I'm just a chubby girl from NJ that watches food TV w/ FH entirely way too much

another foodie here!

All-clad IS worth the price, and frankly is the gold standard of American cooks.... that is ONLY if it is NOT nonstick. Nonstick always wears off.

The 'clad' of all-clad is an aluminum core (which distributes heat evenly, minimizing hot spots) with the inside and outside covered with stainless steel (which unlike aluminum, is inert.... translation from foodie to english: you can cook tomato sauce and other acidic foods in it!)

The end result? very little scoarched food... you won't have as big of a mess with your pudding if the phone rings!

I spent a small fortune purchasing the European version of all clad (dahlstrom by iitala/hackman), and have never regretted it.

Pair it with a couple nice cast iron skillets (and properly season them), and a cheap non-stick pan from homegoods, and your pots will be the best on earth!

one more thing:
if the pots you were given are anodised aluminum, I'd consider returning them... they have a tendency to scratch and get stained. They're sort of porous.....

Also, sometimes I wonder how safe nonstick is.... I've read somewhere that every american has teflon in their blood!

Besides, you can't build a lovely brown film on the bottom of your pot while frying onions if they don't stick a bit!

Thank g-d for this post, because I have been feeling super guilty that FH and I registered for the All Clad Copper Core pots which are WAY more than I EVER thought I would spend on pots. FH had very few opinions when it came to registering except when it came to the pots. He insisted that if we were going to buy pots, we were going to get the best out there. We did alot of research and that's what we wound up with.

I'm also really into cooking and recommend the All-Clad Stainless line. As mentioned above, they are really the culinary standard for stainless cookware. And again, non-stick pans are good for a few applications, but only stainless steel helps you create fond - the brown bits that stick to the pan - that help you create pan sauces and gravies once they are deglazed.

You really don't need to purchase a whole set. They don't usually give you all the pans you'll need. I've bought all of my pots and pans separately and I use them all quite often. FM if you'd like a list of the ones that are most essential.

You can also add a non-stick sauce pan and omelette pans (8 in and 10 in) to your registry
