Re: Cooking help!
i'm not a fan of the store-bought tomato sauce! but to spice it up, i'd sautee some garlic and onions in olive oil, and add that to the sauce -- and maybe some real cherry tomatoes (you can throw them in with the garlic/onions)... add some scallions too!

next time - surprise him and cook your own! it is so easy! you just need to let it cook for a long time. . . and btw all of the girls here you can get a great recipe i am sure!!
ps - only use the cinnamon if you have a marinara or non meat sauce. . . i only use it in my plain sauce

Re: Cooking help!
are these sauce recipes things that are passed down for generations and you're not allowed to tell anyone? Just curious.

Re: Cooking help!
here's one my friend gave me...haven't tried it yet though
1 large onion, chopped 3 cloves garlic, minced 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 (28 ounce) can crushed or whole peeled tomatoes* 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste 2 tomato paste cans full of water 2 tablespoons dried basil 1 tablespoon dried oregano 2 bay leaves 1 tablespoon white sugar
DIRECTIONS: Heat olive oil in a large saucepan or Dutch oven. Saute onions and garlic until tender, 2-3 minutes. Add remaining ingredients (except sausage links) and simmer over low heat for 3 hours. With one hour cooking time remaining, cook and brown sausages in a skillet. When browned, place in sauce and continue to simmer. Remove bay leaves before serving.
*use the whole peeled tomatoes (plum, roma or italian variety) and crush them with hands over the pot.

Re: Cooking help!
My FH loves when I cook Italian on Sunday nights - gets him in the mood for Sopranos!!!
Its really easy to make homemade sauce, i'm an irish girl and I never use jar sauce. My mom always made it from scratch and I learned from her.... Love the way the house smells when you simmer sauce all day long.
