Cookwear

In additon to having trouble registering for china - cookwear is another issue.

Can you tell me what cookwear you registered for, why (you know it's reliable, you liked the color, cooking quality, etc.) and how much it is?
Thanks for the help!

I highly recommend the Calphalon Tri Ply. It's pricey, but I think it's fantastic. I bought myself a few pieces of open stock and I use them all the time!

Re: Cookwear

I found this article on cookware really helpful when we were looking: Pots & Pans 101 We decided to register for Calphalon stainless steel but we're actually waiting for their new line to come out this month to see if we like it better than what's in the stores now.

We chose Calphalon because it's high quality (it's what the Culinary Institute of America uses); stainless because I've heard that it's what 'real' cooks use (I'm not a real cook, but I play one on TV ), you can put it in the dishwasher, and you're not limited in what utensils you can use on it the way you are with non-stick. The good thing is that a lot of stainless lines will comes with a non-stick frying pan as one of their 7 or 9 piece sets. While nonstick is easier to clean, we've heard that the nonstick material starts to wear off after awhile. Also, it's more likely that nonstick will have a chemical reaction with some food that will affect the taste (unless you get anodized nonstick).

We really wanted the Tri-Ply Stainless Steel (it's about $399 for a 10 piece set) but we are waiting for their new 'Contemporary Stainless' line to come out because we noticed that the Tri-ply line didn't have a lot of the accessory pieces, like a dutch oven, that their non-stick lines have (maybe because their more well-known for non-stick?). Hope this helps!

Calpahlon quality cannot be beat. And the neither can the warranty. Totally worth every penny.

Thanks for the input! Ok - so one thing I noticed is that the Calphalon sets all have metal handles. One of the things I was looking for was a set that had handles that don't get hot. Now - let me say that I don't cook .... yet! So although this seems an important quality to me - for those of you who cook... is this not important?
Thanks again - I'm completely clueless when it comes to these things!

I have pans with metal handles now and they don't get too hot. The one that get really hot are usually the stainless steel ones. I have a couple of those now. But my nonstick ones don't get very hot. I think it has to do with heat distribution and the cooking material.

These are the pots we are registered for.

But we didn't register for a set. I figure you're less likely to get the pots as a $400 set than as individual pieces.

That's a good question! I didn't think they got hot, but I haven't ever used the stainless steel kind. Oh, the thing I forgot to mention above is that we also wanted a set that had glass see-through lids because I need to see when I'm burning things Calphalon was the only higher-end set we saw that offered that.
