Is the cover charge expensive??
It depends what time you go and if you're on a list I believe. I went once after work and there was a super long 'happy hour' line but no cover charge.

V if you want to avoid a stiff door and being forced into getting bottle service, there are plenty of rooftop places in the city....

You can have dinner at Marble Lane in the Dream Hotel and then go to their rooftop lounge! Its really nice and its fun!!
Or .. check out the James Hotel .. its further downtown but they have a restaurant there called David Burke and then you can go upstairs to their rooftop called Jimmy!

230 fifth is right near my job..(im there on tuesdays-lol) I love this place-it is great limited drink menu (but I am an alcoholic)
The Strand NYC is great The plunge at the gansevoort Library Hotel rooftop (awesome) Salon de Ning-the Peninsula hotel RARE NYC these are all rooftop
