Can anyone give me a ballpark on what a new full bath would cost? And also a new kitchen? I'm looking at a house that would need to be updated and I'd like to ballpark what it would cost to fix it.

My friend redid his bathroom - through contractor's - for $15k. His biggest ticket item was the glass tile flooring - that alone was over $5k. I think he could have done it a lot cheaper - and quicker - through either himself or a different contractor.

the average bathroom prices from a good contractor with decent products like kohler fixtures should start at 8-10 thousand if you get whirlpool tubs and glass or natural stone tiles the price can rise greatly.
the same thing goes for kitchens it all depends on the size of your kitchen. what kind of cabinets you use and countertops you purchase.

This is very helpful - thanks so much. I think for the kitchen we would do it nicely, but not crazy high end appliances or granite countertops. Its a small-ish cape kitchen. If anyone has a ballpark on this, that would be great.

I have heard for bathrooms the price is $15,000-25,000 for something decent.

I had my kitchen remodeled, but since it was thru the insurance I'm not sure of the exact cost.... but I believe it was about $22k and that didn't include some electric work and tile work I had done separately.
When we redid our bath - we gutted it down to the studs, put new sheetrock/conrete board, tile wall in the tub, tile floor, and electric work and that was about $6000 - and that didn't include replacing the tub (we have a cast iron tub), and the toilet, vanity and mirror was replaced just a couple years earlier).

I think you can do a nice, but not crazy bathroom (not a jacuzzi tub or anything like that) for like $8-10K of course it all depend on what type of tile you use and if you buy all new fixtures, etc. My mom had gotten an estimate from HOme Depot for a new kitchen (she has a small-ish cape) and for new cabinets and counters (not granite) it was about $9K
Unfortunately the kitchen and the bathrooms are generally the most expensive rooms to re-do.
