So I just wanted to start to prepare for looking at invites and I wanted to know for invites what 's the going rate for 200 guests? and what is super high for an invite. I just want to make sure when I go to a place I am not paying an outrageous amount when I could have gotten the same thing for less.

i'm DIYing simple ones for about $1 each.
if you're having them made elsewhere, i think the going rate is about $5, on average (more if you're getting pocketfold invites, or added bling or whatnot)

i just got quoted about 2.50 per invite for layered invitations.. you can do a lot of research for online invitation companies and get them much cheaper.. Many places send you samples so you can feel the card stock and see what the invitations will look like... do your research and youll see what things cost so when you decide to order you wont feel like your getting ripped off.....

What is the difference between layered invites and pocketfold invites?

we are getting around 100 invites for around $2.80 per invite (that's without postage).

We spent $500 on 100 invites...that included printing our return address on the back flap, printing up all the rsvp envelopes and addressing every envelope for our guests.
