Costa Rica

Has anyone been to Costa Rica in July? I'm planning our family summer vacation and am stuck between Mexico or Costa Rica.

This probably isn't helpful, but I was looking to go to Costa Rica for my honeymoon (end of June/early July) and we were told it was rainy season at that time. Their rainy season is May through November.

That's what I thougt as well but some coworker have told me they have gone in the summer and got not 1 inche or rain. Knowing my luck it will rain while I'm there. I guess I'll stick to Mexico.

i went in beginning of June last year and it was rainy season. we did have some good days but when it rains there it REALLY RAINS like a total downpour. also there was an earthquake the day we got there, but dont let my experience deter you we still had the best time in Costa Rica its a fabulous place very very relaxing, and when the sun was shining (it mostly rained at night) it was beautiful so warm and sunny. i just happen to have the worst possible luck weather-wise when traveling.

Re: Costa Rica

we went in july a few years ago.
it rained a few afternoons later in the afternoon for only a few minutes and one whole day while we were there. It was the last day so we just lazed around.

it was still beautiful and the rain cooled things off

i just booked my honeymoon there but not til Feb 2012. I was told summer is rainy season...they say it is still nice there and things are less expensive but you are limited with activities when it is raining

I actually just got back from Costa Rica 2 weeks ago, and they were saying that they were about to head into the 'green season' where they measure rain in feet rather than inches That being said if you don't mind dealing with potentially getting wet then Costa Rica is absolutely beautiful and totally worth going to, but Mexico is also amazing, so really you'll win either way.

If you go with CR though, make sure to pack summer and spring clothing....it's 85-90 in the lowlands, but gets to freezing at the top of the mountains (about 2500 ft up it was in the mid 60s).

We went there last July and we were told it rains once a day similar to Florida... (i my opinion... NO, when they say rain they mean pour and it was ALL day... we were there 7 days and only had 2 days on nice weather) The beach was black and the water was brown. (it was a family vacation so at least I was in good company and don't think we'll ever go back)

FYI - we stayed south. I heard further North has nice beaches and is nicer

When we were they the workers told us the best time to go is in December.

Re: Costa Rica

The water was brown because of the black sand. I was further north and it was the same thing. the sand wasn't brown but was a dark brown. Water was not like caribean blue. When I asked I was told it was b/c of the sand in the water...makes sense.

we stayed at recreo costa rica which was awesome and might be great for kiddies b/c its a private house and each house has a pool and a chef--lots of pool toys for the kids. and the beach was 3-5 min away by golf cart (they provide)
