Costa Rica / Gibraltar?

Costa Rica / Gibraltar?

Has anyone ever been to Costa Rica or Gibraltar? If so, my questions are:

1. Have you been to Costa Rica in July? If so, did it rain the entire time?

2. Did you go to Gibraltar as a day trip from Spain or spend your entire vacation there?

Please let me know. I'm deciding b/t CR or Europe for my summer vacation and need input! We're booking tomorrow!

Thanks!

Re: Costa Rica / Gibraltar?

July is the rainy season in Costa Rica. When I was there it rained every day 12:30-5:30 like clock work. I know the times because it always started while I was walking to classes and end right after I got home from classes.Usually the first 1 week or so in Costa Rica you have veranillo (little summer) where it is hot and beautiful, it makes you think the rainy season is a lie- nope its not. It is not a little sprinkle it is a Full on Downpour. Sometimes the roads in the town I was staying in would flood out.

But Costa Rica is beautiful and if you can go the last week in June and first week in July you will enjoy yourself even more!!

Re: Costa Rica / Gibraltar? SWAGS!

SWAGS -- Were you on the Pacific or Carribean side of CR? Will that make a difference in weather patterns? I heard about the 'little summer' and that's what i was hoping for. I know it's not a guarantee, but what are the chances of having beautiful weather that first week of July? We were thinking of going the second week in July, but after reading your email, I think we may forgo that idea.

The first week of July i think is normally the best. I think the second week was ok too. During the week I was in Deseperados which is a small town outside of San José. On the weekends we traveled (I was in school there) We went to the Pacific our first weekend and the weather was great. We went to Playa Hermosa near Jacó (There are 2 Playa Hermosas). We returned there in at the end of August and it rained to the point where it affected the bathing water (it was brown). I never made it over to the Carribean side . I know that it rained when we went to Monteverde and it drizzles when we went Arenal (definitely a must see). I just pulled out my journal and it doesn't look like the rain started for me until the 10th or the 11th.

Re: Costa Rica / Gibraltar?

SWAGS -- thank you SO much for all of your help. I've been dying to go to CR for so long, but I usually only have time to go away in the summer and it's prevented me from going for so long. Finally this year my husband and I were like, 'Screw it...let's just go regardless of the rain.' But I want my dream trip to be just that....so I may just have to suck it up and wait. I'm just afraid I'll get prego and never go. We'll probably just end up going to Italy or Gibraltar to see the apes this summer. Thanks again for all of your help.

Re: Costa Rica / Gibraltar?

Don't skip it if it is your dream!! It is worth it believe me!!! Do some reasearch, maybe it is different on the Caribbean side. Costa Rica is AMAZING!! There was a couple of thread discussing Costa Rica if you want to do a search. Alina went there and a few others also but I am not sure of the time of year they went.

I am not sure about the weather in October I only went to school there in the summer.

Re: Costa Rica / Gibraltar?

Thanks! I'm so confused. You know...so many people told us not to go to Bermuda in August bc it is hurricane season. We went, we were surrounded by 4 hurricanes, but none hit and we had a blast. We took our chances again with St. Lucia in August. Everyone warned us against it because of the weather, we decided to go anyway, and we had perfect weather. We were hoping to have the same luck in CR, but chances aren't likely being that it is the RAINFOREST! So, we're at a loss as to what we should do. We just HAVE to go there (we're wildlife freaks) but don't want to be stuck at the hotel with terrential downpours. Whaa.

If you are going to go to the Rainforests it is going to be damp not necessarily pouring regardless of when you go. Do you want to see some pictures that might persuades you?
